Ready for his close-up

Back in July, a dear friend of mine — an avid food blogger herself (SweetBites) — sent me an email to let me know that someone was looking for a white French Bulldog in New York City for a photo shoot. It so happened that it was for a beautiful home style digital magazine called Sweet Paul. After the editor saw some images I emailed him, it was love at first sight. Our handsome Frenchie Oliver was selected for the shoot – he's on page 73.

As a proud parent, I took him to the location (after prepping him, of course), but wasn't sure how he would behave since it was his first professional model experience. All I knew was that the story idea for the shoot was White neat! But when we got there and saw that he would have to wear this adorable cone hat my first thought was "He'll never wear this." But surprise surprise, Oliver behaved like a true champ. He stroke a pose nonstop for about 45 minutes - of course a bag of treats did the trick.

This was a fun experience, especially meeting Paul, the editor of Sweet Paul blog and magazine of the same name, and the whole creative team behind this magical product. Born in Oslo, Norway, Paul moved to The Big Apple over a year ago, where he also works as a food/interior stylist, cookcook author and crafter. So I couldn't let this opportunity pass by and asked him to share a little about himself with us.

What is the inspiration behind Sweet Paul? I have played with the idea of having my own magazine for many years. But as we all know, to print a glossy magazine is really expensive so it stopped there. When I discovered that I could do a 100% online magazine the picture changed. So now something that was a dream came true. Sounds very Disney like, but its true.

What are the five must-haves for Fall decor?

  1. CANDLES: I don't have a fireplace, but make up for it by always burning candles in my house.
  2. KNITS: I'm a sucker for anything knitted. Love pillows, throws, chairs covered in knits. Makes anyplace feel more Fall-like and cozy.
  3. BOOKS: Fall and Winter is closing in on us and we are spending more time inside. Fill tables and side tables with stacks OF art, photo, fashion and cookbooks.
  4. 70's BROWN GLASS: I just love the shapes and forms of 70's brown glass, looks so stylish on a table.
  5. MUD: Mud is an Australian pottery that makes the most beautiful BOWLS, plates, pitchers, etc. All beautiful, muted colors and amazing shapes.

You can't live without...? Pimm's, Kiehl's moisturizer, orange juice, good cheese, suspenders and Vogue.

What's your design philosophy? I used to be very minimal, but that changed the last three years. I live with a mix of things, IKEA, Mid Century Modern, vintage Robots and flea market finds. I like a home to look lived in, not look like a showroom.

What makes you go WOW?
Good food. Your favorite recipe? My maple syrup chicken. Its easy to make and oh, so good. Perfect dinner party food.

What's your favorite comfort food? Mac & Cheese. Just love it. I make my own with 4 different cheeses, pancetta, squash and breadcrumbs on top.

Can't leave home without...?  My phone, notebook and pen and a kiss from my boyfriend.

After all this, I'm sure Oliver feels like another celeb walking the street of New York but hopefully he won't think that people will be asking him for an autograph when they stop us to say hello during his daily walks!
