A COCKTAIL OF STYLES

Tradition and eclecticism mix divinely in this Italian jewel. Located in Lombardy, Italy, the unique sixteenth-century house is owned by the head of interior design studio Mariateresa Facchini, who bought the house to renovate it and reclaim the splendor of the original structure. The decor is a cocktail of architectural and decorative styles, with wisely-chosen pieces of furniture and few concessions to color—except smart splashes of yellow and hints of blue. Everywhere you turn there's a delightful surprise, either through the beautiful interiors or the unexpected decorative pieces like the wire donkey sculpture and the cage rabbit on a pedestal—which by the way I want for my pad. Happy weekend!

INGENIOUS SHADES

Today, I thought I'd give you a short break from beautiful interiors and wow you with these phenomenally witty, sculptural images by Stockholm-based photographer Philip Karlberg. An idea that started a few months back materialized in this crazy fun project for shelter publication Plaza Magazine. Overall, it took him six days and about 1,200 wooden sticks to recreate six ingenious portraits of some classic sunglasses wearers like Johnny Depp, Jackie O, Karl Lagerfeld, Lady Gaga, John Belushi and Steve McQueen (from top to bottom). Aren't they amazing? Bravo to Philip for his patience and imagination.

RUSTIC SERENITY

Originally an old timber workshop north of Copenhagen, this minimalist and clean dwelling is now the Carpenter's Farm. The home consists of three exceptionally-renovated separate houses which once formed part of the workshop. I'm really inspired by the serenity of these interiors, specially the mix the beautiful Mid-century modern classics with the rustic elements of the original spaces. Although decorated in a simple style, each room was curated with the paramount taste Danish are known for.

THE PERSONAL TOUCH

Accessorizing your home is the most fun part of decorating—at least it is for me. With those special details you can show your style and personality in your home. That's why I love finding pieces that you can customize to make your own, like these Albert clocks by Sven Stornebel Design. The back panel comes off giving you the opportunity to decorate the interior of the clock as you wish. Very cute!!

A WELCOMED TREND

Hostels have been around for a long time offering affordable no-frills accommodations for the thrifty traveler. But lately I've noticed a rather welcomed trend of design hostels popping up everywhere. This particular one immediately caught my eye for its gorgeous and minimalist look. Designed as a hybrid between a Japanese pill hotel and an old European department store, the modern Goli Bosi Design Hostel is located in the heart of the old town of Split, Croatia. Yellow plays a key role in its decor paying homage to the old sulphur baths the town was known for. Although simple in its design, this hostel has very delightful details—I especially love the graphic signage in the rooms floors. If you're not into sharing your room with other guests, don't sweat it. You can choose a private room to enjoy a fabulous stay in this groovy inn.

FULL OF PERSONALITY

I love finding spaces that have character and reflect their owner's personality. This wonderful apartment in Krakow, Poland is loaded with great details—fitting of a couple of medical students in their twenties. Their passion for animals is displayed all throughout their 700 square-feet love nest designed by Morpho Studio. The not-so-subtle animal motifs in their decor is done with taste and humor at the same time, like the hand-painted rat mural in the living room which makes that space pop.

SECOND TIME AROUND

A while back I was happy to feature the stunning house of Swedish stylist Marie Olsson. I remember being mesmerized by its eclectic beauty the moment I stumbled upon it. Her delicious blend of antiques and flea-market finds gives her place a unique, warm feeling. This time around, her house is being displayed as the perfect backdrop for a Danish catalogue photo shoot. Here are a few of the lovely images shot by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen from Norm Architects and perfectly styled by Wendy West—I felt they were a nice treat to start the week off. Happy Monday!

TRASH CHIC

If you still haven't gotten into recycling, these crazy fun trash containers by Hong Kong-based retailers Goodss Passion, will for sure motivate you to get into the habit. The lids for each container are topped with whimsical sculptures of a bottle, a can and a carton to make it easier to recognize each recycling group—and to make recycling fun and convenient for everyone. I'm really fancying these wonderful bins, but sadly my tiny kitchen doesn't have the room to enjoy them. Oh well... maybe yours can.
