PLAYING WITH GRAVITY

How crazy cool is this? This gravity-defying desk is what greets the customers at the reception area of the Dublin design agency Boys and Girls. The tabletop is carefully balanced with giant Jenga blocks and real helium balloons. How did they do it? Who knows, but it does look amazingly fun. The idea came after their reception area was described in a magazine article as “small and routine”, giving the creative partner of the agency enough courage to come up with this genious piece of furniture.

A NORDIC VIBE

This optimally planned apartment in popular Vasastan, Stockholm is a ray of sunshine. The 670 square-feet pad is quite bright and airy with a decor on point with that dreamy Nordic vibe. Overall, the place shows off a minimalist yet soothing style with obvious touches of personal charm. Despite the serene look, each room says a lot about its owners without trying too hard. You can tell every single piece they used was carefully selected and placed. I particularly love how the richness of the wood furniture glows and brings warmth to the soft color palette.

WRITING ON THE WALL

There's nothing like creating art for your own home, but this London-born artist has taken this idea a step further. Well, actually, several walls further. Shantell Martin has made it a project to cover the whole top floor a Brooklyn brownstone with her whimsical line drawings. When she first moved in, her intention was to limit her drawings to parts of a wall in her room, but inch by inch her art spontaneously took over her office and laundry room walls. Apparently, she draws on everything that comes her way, which explains her crazy fun refuge. She's even taken bottles she found on the street as canvas to display her freestyle drawings. I wonder if her mom ever let her paint on the walls when she was little. She's definitely getting away with it now. And I'm glad she is, since I'm really digging her style. Have a designful and relaxing Holiday weekend!

COMFORT IS IN THE AIR

Once a cottage built in the 1860 by a local fisherman, this warm and cozy home is my dream of a house. I simply love everything about it. There is a certain spontaneity and free-style to its decor that's right up my alley. Located a few miles north of Copenhagen, this family abode is filled with charming details that makes me want to cuddle up on any of their cushy pieces of furniture. You can see more of their gorg house and read the complete story on the renovation here. Enjoy!

SIMPLE BLISS

Light, air and space are the main ingredients in the home of Danish interior designer Tina Offshore Wind. The result is this fresh and sun-drenched first floor apartment in a villa north of Copenhagen, which she shares with her husband, son and adorable pet rabbit Thumper. There is a simple aesthetic comfort to it that I simply love, particularly the subdued color palette that's very representative of her design style: earth tones, gray, white rose with wooden touches. And for course, her selective use of furniture is perfect. Everything is carefully selected and placed so that each piece of furniture has enough breathing room around it, creating a very relaxing ambiance.

SIMPLY BRIGHT

Sometimes it is the simplest things that are the most beautiful. It just takes a splash of good design and a drop of creativity to create that one piece that screams perfection. The Flask falls into that category. This limited-edition pendant lamp, designed by Florian and Sebastian, Schneider impresses through its simplicity. All it takes is a metal lampshade, an electric cord and a bulb and voilà, you've got a super chic fixture for your home. Flask was designed to hang either straight down or on a 90° angle, and it comes in white, sulfur yellow and mint green. Happy Friday!!

AN EYE FOR INTERIORS

Her passion for photography and design is what inspired Dutch photographer Marjon Hoogervorst to shoot amazing spaces. Ever since she was young, Marjon spent time photographing her room with all her hand-crafted creations. To no surprise, she has become a stellar artist capturing the essence and soul of people's homes, like this stunning Amsterdam apartment. “The places where people live tell a lot about them. That's what inspires me—that's what I like to photograph most,” she says. I encourage you to take a few minutes to browse through her beautiful portfolio here. Enjoy it!
