FLIPPING IT AROUND

Leave it to the fabulously ingenious Danish design and architect studio Norm to come up with such a cool multifunctional piece of furniture. The Flip Around Table for Menu is incredibly convenient for small spaces as it gives you the best of both worlds: a beautiful stool for extra seating and a table that can serve as a night stand or side table. How handy is that? I simply love everything they do.

HONORING THE PAST

Do you have plans of going to Paris any time soon? If you happen to be so lucky, you absolutely have to stop by the recently renovated Café Artcurial by architect and art lover Charles Zana. The revamped look is a hybrid between bold sophistication and that old Parisian flair we've all fallen for. Zana's use of materials is exquisite, creating a modern space that honors the past. If you're totally loving Zana's new vision for this iconic restaurant, you can easily achieve the same vibe for your home with some of the pieces I'm suggesting below.

A DESTINATION FOR DESIGN

For more than a decade, Architectural Digest has been hosting a phenomenal Home Design Show in Manhattan, and this weekend I had a chance to visit their 12th annual exhibit. With more than 420 exhibitors and over 500 premium brands, the show was truly a feast for the senses—showcasing the hottest trends and newest products in the home design industry. After a couple of hours strolling down aisles and aisles of inspiration, it was very palpable the renaissance for craftsmanship. Although this trend has been in the radar for the past couple of years, it was obvious the love for wood and metal were strong in the show. But one of my favorite sections of the exhibit was Dining by Design—a spectacular display of creativity and glamour presented by DIFFA where various designers were invited to create one-of-a-kind tabletop installations. Some of the participants included Marimekko, Ralph Lauren, Design Within Reach and Herman Miller among others who want to make a difference supporting the fight against AIDS (the whole purpose of the event). These are some of the vignettes I fell in love with. Which is your favorite?

A HOST LIKE NO OTHER

Warm and inviting with the unmistakable sense of Scandinavian coziness is what makes Copenhagen’s new Nordic restaurant Höst a delicious setting to dine. Norm Architects has created an organic environment in an urban setting by using “materials that age gracefully: recycled wood that has washed up on the west coast, granite in uneven pieces, concrete with clear structures and deviations, old cast iron and dented zinc. All of this is offset by a warm trickling light, soft wool rugs and lambskin”. Norm has even designed an exclusive dinnerware collection for Höst to compliment the raw and minimalist beauty of the space. I'm in love. This place is to dine for.

A DREAMY NEST

I just came back from a wonderful long weekend in upstate New York celebrating Thanksgiving. It really was a terrific and relaxing getaway full of great food and special moments in the company of loved ones. Every time we spend time in the countryside we crave more and more having our own country nest. We tend to explore the small towns in the area and enjoy discovering all their fun shops. However, we can't help paying a visit to a handful of home decor and lifestyle store that we simply love. One of them is Nest located in the beautiful Delaware River community of Narrowsburg, New York. Splendidly curated by Brazilian native and owner, Anna Bern (former art director for W and design director for Vogue magazine), Nest is a dreamy haven filled with country contemporary products ranging from bed and bath, decor, furniture, clothing, accessories and jewelry. Everything in it is right up my alley, particularly the eclectic mix of furnishings I always envision in my dream country home.

SETTING UP FOR A CELEBRATION

The countdown for Thanksgiving has started and with it comes the endless list of preparations and decision-making for the special day. Whether deciding which menu to serve or how to decorate for the occasion, it's always fun to give your home a personal touch. Although it's a very traditional and family-oriented holiday, it's always good to infuse fresh ideas when it comes to setting the table. These stunning photos by the talented Line Klein for Alt magazine will spark some cool and out-of-the-box ideas for your tabletop. Dare to mix and match when setting up the table: mix styles, patterns and colors of your tableware to create a statement. This will definitely add a unique flair to the celebration.

LESS IS MORE

Inspired by the classic Scandinavian style, OYOY is one of my favorite Danish decor companies. Primary designer Lotte Fynboe uses graphic shapes, color and exquisite materials superbly to create high-quality home accessories. Focussing on form and function, Lotte adds undertones of simple, Japanese design with her passion for combining colors and materials. Her “less is more” approach helps her conceive a unique blend of clean and functional design. Here are a few drool-worthy photos from their latest collection. I'm sure you'll want everything in it just as much as I do.
