COLOR CODED

Talk about organization. These super neat (not pun intended) compositions are making the neat freak in me want to come out this weekend to rearrange my desktop and all my drawers. Putting these color-coded still lifes together must have been a blast for Swedish Design Studio Kontor Kontur. They really paid attention to details and gathered a fun range of trinkets and gadgets that make the vignettes very amusing. As a matter of fact, they made them into postcards that you can buy in their online shop. Happy weekend to all and don't forget to enter our giveway here.

TWO IN ONE

Although I'm not an avid cook, I'm all for having my kitchen well equipped with all the necessary gadgets and tools for those rare case when I get into a cooking mood. As you know, New York kitchens are on the smaller side, and mine is no exemption. So whenever I come across dual purpose gadgets, like this cool utensil pod, I get beyond excited. The minimalist and space-saving Knife Pot is Normann Copenhagen's latest addition to their collection of housewares. The Pot is a simple knife block that features an built-in turntable with space for knives, whisks and wooden spoons. Its fabulous design allows for easy dismantling and cleaning and comes in five soft tones of black, white, grey, blue and nude. Isn't great to have all your utensils within reach when preparing your favorite dish? Well my friends, this will definitely do the trick.

SPLITTING HEARTS

Put some love back into your food with these adorable, clever and biodegradable eating utensils by designer Fatima Fazal. The Heart Part is a fully functioning utensil that pokes, cuts and scoops when split into two. “The Heart Part is inspired in part by friendships, culture and creation. Part finding the hearts in things, part seeking the love in things. It is part educational, part hopeful. Part conversational, part considerate,” explains Fatima. With her ‘Have a Heart’ program, she's also committed to helping those in need by contributing part of the proceeds towards causes close to our hearts. Very cool idea Fatima!!

A CUP OF HEART

Imagine sipping your Sunday morning coffee or favorite tea in these sweet Heart mugs and tea cups by London-based designer Reiko Kaneko. A shadow of the cup's handle is silk-screen printed as a reflection creating a subtle heart shape. Reiko's love of ceramics has led her to specialize in ceramic design based around her typically British fine bone china tableware and home accessories with a lovely Japanese twist. These scream Valentine's Day gift to me!

A FINE DINING EXPERIENCE

As part of a collaborative effort between Danish furniture company BoConcept and Egyptian-born designer Karim Rashid, this collection of affordable dining room pieces is just to die for. Every single piece in the Ottowa Collection has the distinctive fun and quirky style that Rashid is known for. It includes a complete dining room set with table, chairs, sideboard and cabinet. But that's not all. Rashid wanted to extend his vision to complementing accessories as well to create a complete dining experience. From lamps, dishes and vases the accessories add the finishing touches to the room. But one of my favorites is the bold black and white fingerprint rug that I find simply irresistible. Although the collection was designed for the dining room, most of its components would work just as well in any room of the home.

They've done it again!

When I came across these beautiful compositions, I knew right away they were the magical work of photographer Carl Kleiner and stylist Evelina Kleiner. Probably these images look familiar to you too. If you remember, they also created these photos for the IKEA cookbook “Homemade is Best”. Obviously, IKEA was so impressed with their talent that they hired them again to work on this new project. This creative duo doesn't stop to amaze me with their imaginative creations and concepts.

Chilled With Style

Just in time for your New Year's bash, the Belgian fashion house Maison Martin Margiela has come out with this rather insane Champagne Bucket as part of their Line 13 Collection. Made of polished stainless steel and crafted to resemble an industrial paint pail, the bucket holds up to seven liters and has a hinged top handle with notch at center. I'd say it's the perfect container to chill a few bottles of your favorite bubbly and ring the New Year in style.

Creative Settings

How amazing is this series of photographs by Belgium-based photographer Jean-Francois De Witte? By strategically setting everyday kitchen utensils and variously-shaped dishes, Jean-Francois was able to create these whimsical compositions depicting characters and animals. This is imagination and creativity at its best.
