IN TOUCH WITH NATURE

Don't you feel sometimes like taking off to a remote spot in the middle of nowhere? A peaceful location where to relax and take a break from your daily routine? Well, Hotel Magazin1 in an island off the coast of Sweden might be the ideal place to do just that. A former grain storehouse from 1934, the building now houses this charming country retreat with five very unique rooms individually designed in that Scandinavian style I simply adore. The decor is rather minimalist but with beautiful details that make each space warm and inviting. This hotel is the right place to be in touch with nature and yourself.

FOR THE SOFTER SIDE OF WINTER

I know it's a bit premature to be posting about Fall when we still about a month and a half left of Summer. But I simply couldn't resist sharing the upcoming collection from the Danish home decor brand Bloomingville. Their Autumn/Winter collection is a beautiful mix of metallics, wood, wool and beautiful patterns. Soft pinks, lavender, peach and grays dominate their new lookbook: a rather unexpected palette for the wintry season—but one that will definitely brighten up your decor on those long and chilly days. I encourage you to browse through their online catalogue here. It's to die for.

GUEST STYLE

Who says small can't be cool? This fabulous guesthouse in Denmark has all you can ask for a conformable and stylish weekend in the country. The 53 square-foot annex was beautifully designed by Martin Degener Architect outside of Copenhangen. I'm quite certain the lucky guests staying in this chic retreat will enjoy all the amenities one can dream of and more. Happy weekend!

SUMMER WHITES

It took five years of meticulous renovating to transform a former 1920s schoolhouse into this magnificent Summer home in southern Sweden. The refurbished house has a timeless decor with an unmistakably personal touch. White walls reflect the shifting daylight that pours through the oversized floor-to-ceiling windows — perfect to contemplate the breathtaking views and roaming deer.

IT'S ALL IN THE STAGING

Model apartments tend to be cold and impersonal, which in a sense in quite the opposite look you want to have when trying to attract prospect buyers or renters. If staged right, and with enough attention paid to details, they should feel homey and inviting — the whole purpose of investing time and money to decorate them. Believe it or not, this lovely Stockholm flat is a model unit for a brand new apartment complex designed by Wingårdhs Architects for the developers Folkhem. The beautiful choice of furnishings and color palette makes this pad rather attractive to any possible homeowner or tenant. The wood details and lovely accessories gives it a lived-in feel which will entice anyone to want to live here. I can definitely fall for it.

MINIMALISM WITH A FRENCH TWIST

Mixing design styles is not often an easy task, especially when talking about two very different styles such as Nordic minimalism and Southern French. But this lovely home in Vence, France hosts these two distinct decorative approaches rather beautifully. The warmth of the wood furnishings are perfect complements to the simpler lines of the Mid-century pieces that bring the Scandinavian undertones into the fold— while unexpected bursts of bright colors introduce the element of surprise to this fusion of styles.

SHADES OF GRAY

Dark, monochromatic decor is most often associated with masculine interiors, but this stunning Stockholm apartment proves that theory wrong. Its minimalist yet warm ambiance has enough soft details that makes it versatile. I find it interesting how they decided not paint the walls all the way to the ceiling, creating a sort of molding effect—a technique that works best with high ceilings and smooth walls. Another lovely detail is the rug-like pattern they designed with black and white tiles in the foyer and kitchen, a cool way of bringing visual interest to both areas. I love everything about this Scandinavian nest!

SHABBY AND CHIC

Whether or not you're into the whole shabby chic approach, this sweet Scandinavian country kitchen might win you over. Every single nook is full of charm and history. This kind of decor calls for a mix and match of pieces with signs of wear and tear, and this lovely eat-in kitchen is a beautiful example of this design style done right. Amazing flea market treasures, family heirlooms and wonderful finds from a nearby barn is what makes it so special. I'm sold! How about you?
