SUMMER IS IN THE AIR

It's already feeling like Summer here in the Big Apple. With our first heat wave of the season in full force, all I can think of is sitting in a cool breezy spot—like the one in this beautiful photograph—to enjoy a refreshing lemonade. But what I love most about this setting, is that sweet wall sign made out of wire by Dixie Interiors. How cute is that. I hope you're having a nice relaxing Sunday in your favorite spot!

GRILLING IN STYLE

Just in time to kick off the grilling season, and the unofficial start of Summer, I wanted to share with you this stunner of a BBQ grill designed by Barcelona designers Mermeladaestudio. The geometric design of the stainless-steel grill will create a far more interesting pattern on your food. “It shows elegance and its aesthetics are planned as if it was a piece of furniture. Its shape and size is ideal for reduced outdoor spaces, ” the designers explain. Have a phenomenal holiday weekend!

YOU'VE GOT MAIL

This is no ordinary mailbox. It's witty and modernistic representation of a bird makes it a quite charming mail holder. Designed by Bill Playso from the Australian lifestyle brand Playso, the Koo Koo was meant to add a touch whimsy and curb appeal to any front yard. The wing was strategically designed to hold the larger pieces of mail. Triple love!

SWEET AND SUNNY

We've been bombarded with quite a few late April showers in the last couple of days—and unfortunately the forecast doesn't seem promising. So in hopes of bringing the sunshine back to the Big Apple, I thought some outdoor eye candy would be the perfect antidote. If you're getting ready to start designing your outdoor rooms, these sweet and quirky spaces have the perfect elements to make your Summer a sunny one. Happy weekend!

CAMPY AND FRESH

I know it's too soon to be thinking about beach weather, but I guess it's my wishful thinking that inspired me to feature this fun collection of outdoor furniture by Colonel. I love every piece in the collection but I'm particularly taken by the new Caracas chair—a fresh and contemporary version of the 60's camping chair. Besides looking comfy and inviting, the chair holds a special place in my heart because it shares the name of my birth city. (I thought you'd enjoy that bit of trivia). Happy weekend!

JUST ADD WATER

These are the kind of finds that give me an instant smile. Maybe it's their cheerful colors or simply because they bring back happy memories of Summer. Either way, this fabulous version of the classic garden hose will add a touch of coolness to your outdoors. The Dramm Hose from West Elm is made of rubber and nickel-plated brass and resists kinking and coils easily, even in cold weather. The yellow one is my favorite... which one is yours?

A PERFECT RETREAT

I've fallen madly in love with this charming farmhouse in Rhinebeck, NY. Calvin Tsao and Zack McKown of TsAO & McKOWN Architects took on the renovation of a former tenant farmer's cottage and extended it with a screened porch to turn it into their 1200 square-feet weekend retreat. It truly came out beautifully. I applaud their decision to paint the interiors of the house, including the floors, in a creamy white— with the exception of a couple of walls in the foyer which they painted  pea-green for contrast and interest. The simplicity of the original architecture plays wonderfully with the rustic and mid-century modern furnishings and their collection of eclectic flea market finds. If you ask me what my favorite feature of the house is, I'd have to say the dark gray they picked to paint the exterior. It's simply perfect.

BEAUTIFULLY MADE

I don't know if I'm an ax kind of guy, but for graphic designer Peter Buchanan-Smith this evocative tool sort of turned his world around when, after seeing the need for a better ax, founded Best Made Company. What started as a venue where he sold mostly axes, Best Made has become a go-to place for a variety of stylish accessories for the outdoors aficionado. His inventory includes a line of products such as wearable goods, bags, first aid kits, a popular limited edition map series and goodies for the home. I love how simple, yet beautifully designed all his products are, especially their classic aesthetics of yesteryear. Here are some of my Best Made faves.
