FLAMING STYLE

This weekend marks the unofficial start of the much anticipated Summer season (at least for us living in the U.S since we're celebrating Memorial Day). With it, comes breezy days at the beach, fabulous family get-togethers and delicious afternoon barbecues in the backyard. So why not get your grilling started right with the chic Eva Solo Grill Globe. Following the simplicity of Danish design, the integrated lid incorporates a thermometer, which saves having it hanging on the grill or lying on the ground. The black bottom half of the grill is made of aluminium, while the lid and the four-legged stand are made of stainless steel. Also, the stand is designed so a table and a holder for various grill utensils can quickly be attached. Happy grilling!

ICFF: THE ROUNDUP

Once a year, New York City welcomes furniture and home decor designers and manufactures from around the world to showcase their new creations at ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair). So yesterday afternoon I headed over to this great spectacle ready for a design overdose. My expectations were surpassed. I was excited to see a lot of new talent among the veteran design houses, especially in wall coverings. The variety of materials and interpretations in wallpapers, tiles and finishes was quite extensive—actually more than I've seen in previous years. Another biggie was lighting (or maybe it was just me since I have a weakness for everything that illuminates). But seriously, the array of alternatives and designs was glorious. Last but not least, I was very happy to see a great deal of attention paid to the outdoors with a gorgeous and stylish selection of furniture and accessories for the patio and backyard. Overall, I spent a delightful afternoon drooling over such wonderful and inspiring work, but the cherry on the cake was running into design guru Karim Rashid. The fair will be open until tomorrow, so if you happen to be in this part of town, I recommend you stop by and see for yourself what's new and happening in the world of design. If not, here are a few of the many things that really caught my eye. Enjoy!

As we get ready to start enjoying the outdoors, why not begin thinking of new furniture and accessories to make the experience that much enjoyable. With this ingenious table designed by Norwegian designer Andreas Engesvik for Menu, you don't have to leave your style at home. The Pin Table is a tribute to outdoor activities since you can take it to the park, the beach or wherever you can pin it into the ground and use as a little side table for those refreshing summer cocktails.

Camping Above The Clouds

If your idea for a relaxing getaway is to be isolated from everything and completely surrounded by nature, the Endemico Resguardo Sylvestre, from Grupo Habita, was conceived with people like you in mind. Set on the mountains of Mexico's Valle de Guadalupe, these 20 stunning ecolofts were sustainably designed by San Diego-based Gracia Studio. Each hut is strategically placed on the mountain slopes so guests can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mexican wine country, especially from their private patios. The cabins are minimally decorated in black and white with an uncomplicated vibe, but have everything you might need to make the most of your stylish camping adventure.

Shaped for Work

How about this for a garden home office? The Tetra Shed is an innovative modular building system designed by London award winning architecture firm Innovation Imperative. This revolutionary concept is ideal for work, rest or play space for the home. If one is not enough, they've been designed to work in clusters and be used for many other purposes such as classrooms, corporate events or even retail space. They're suitable for year-round use as they're built out of clad in either copper, zinc, corten steel or marine plywood and internally lined in either birch faced plywood or plasterboard. There's no doubt this funky shed would be the envy of your neighbors.

No garden will fall short of looking amazing with one of these giant three-dimensional letters created by Jimmy Fiction Esq. in Deptford, South East London. You've Got Mail

I love how form and function come together in this amazingly adorable mailbox conceived by Spanish designer Marcial Ahsayane. His Brussel-based design house, Ahsayane Studio, is all about creating solutions through provocative and innovative designs. That's exactly what he did with the Green Mailbox, which not only holds your daily mail, but also houses a small potted plant. Its slanted top guides rain water directly into the plant to keep it nice and green. What a cute idea. Have a designful Friday!

Up In The Air

I love coming across things that revive wonderful childhood memories and experiences. When I was around 8, I remember using the shed in our backyard as a hideaway and a pretend treehouse where I spent hours playing with my friends. So when I saw this wonderful treehouse, by German company Baumraum, flashes from the past came to mind. The company is dedicated to creating wonderful aerial dwellings among trees where one can play, work, relax, escape to or simply daydream. The King of the Frogs, as they named this particular one, hovers above a reflecting pond in a small private garden in Münster, Germany.
