AN IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION

After making the decision to sell her Chelsea loft and Hamptons beach house in order to spend time traveling, stylist/photographer Anita Calero just sold part of her impressive collection of mid-century treasures in 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design sale at Christie’s. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Calero at a photo shoot a few years back in her live/work loft, and I remember being in complete awe of how exquisitely styled her pad was. It was almost as being in the coolest museum where I just wanted to touch everything. I'm sure her new home would be as gorgeous as this one was.

A CONSCIOUS RENOVATION

What happens when you outgrow your apartment? In the case this New York family of five, buying the loft above theirs and merging them to create this 3,600 stunner was the perfect move. They implemented several eco-friendly solutions and sustainable materials like recycled denim as insulation into the renovation. Granted the final result is to dye for, but I can't stop drooling over their amazing collection of mid-century chairs—one more beautiful than the other.

A VERY PERSONAL STYLE

Set in the gorgeous region of Alentejo, Portugal, this glorious country adobe is the peaceful retreat of designer Nuno Benito. His enviable collection of flea market finds, vintage Scandinavian furniture and family heirloom compliment each other beautifully in this house—giving it soul and personality. From quiet to bold, the area rugs play an important role in this home's decor as he feels they're the finishing touch that give warmth and humanity to every space. As for the accessories, he prefers to use older pieces that have some history and individuality.

A FACTORY OF POSSIBILITIES

It's hard to believe this bright and impeccable dwelling was once an old factory building in Berlin's city center. After relocating from London, Eve and Gerard Ruecker were in the hunt for a quiet, light-filled oasis in the middle of the German capital —a not-so-easy find in such a urban city. But when they found this crumbling factory, they instantly fell head-over-hills in love with its charm and saw plenty of potential in it. They hired the German architectural firm Miethe+Quehl to help them transform the industrial structure into a home with the Scandinavian flair they were going for: an ultra comfortable environment with a clean and minimalist approach. After completeing the long renovation, the Rueckers got the stunning oasis the had hoped for.

CELEBRATING MODERNISIM

I just came across these wonderful prints inspired by the all-so-iconic Scandinavian aesthetic, and I'm just loving them! It's Liz Lyons' way of paying homage to mid-century, modernist design and designers like Eames, Jacobsen, Saarinen, Cathrineholm, Lindberg among others—and of course some of their most emblematic work. The prints come with a white border, ready for mounting and hand signed by her. You can see her complete collection in her Etsy shop Visual Philosopy. Enjoy!

URBAN CHIC

What started as a big dream and a project between two close friends, culminated in the first design hostel in São Paolo, Brazil. The stylish 'We' Hostel is housed in an early 1900s mansion, which adds character to the design of this low-cost inn. The urban chic decor is divine with a relaxed and unexpected mix of styles and restored flea market finds. Every space has an eclectic and interactive atmosphere that offers comfort, style and the refinement of any boutique hotel.

A BRIGHT DELIGHT

I'm looking forward to the weekend, so I'm very happy Friday is finally here (can't you see the big grin on my face?). Like weekends, color also has the same effect on most people—it certainly does for me. Here's a wonderful weekend treat from our friends Down Under at The Design Files who featured this creative and colorful one-bedroom loft of arhitect Rodney Eggleston from March Studio. The open-layout apartment uses simple materials like plywood, pegboard and concrete to create an effortless design style. Color was also key in making this home a fun and bright delight. Happy weekend!

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Going through a renovation is no easy task and often takes a toll on the people who live through it. But at the end of the day the end results are worth the experience. For brother-sister duo Alex and Georgie Cleary, creative minds behind fashion label Alpha60, the outcome of their 14-month renovation was a dream come true. They transformed an old community hall into this breathtaking home in Melbourne, Australia. The original building was gutted but they were able to reclaim part of the old timber, metal beams and red brick throughout to maintain the original industrial feel. The house is the perfect space to display their extensive and eclectic artwork they've collected through the years, like the giant shoe sculpture made by Georgia's partner Giuseppe Demaio. This must be a fun place to live particularly with all the special and quirky details these siblings have used in their decor.
