TWO IN ONE

Although I'm not an avid cook, I'm all for having my kitchen well equipped with all the necessary gadgets and tools for those rare case when I get into a cooking mood. As you know, New York kitchens are on the smaller side, and mine is no exemption. So whenever I come across dual purpose gadgets, like this cool utensil pod, I get beyond excited. The minimalist and space-saving Knife Pot is Normann Copenhagen's latest addition to their collection of housewares. The Pot is a simple knife block that features an built-in turntable with space for knives, whisks and wooden spoons. Its fabulous design allows for easy dismantling and cleaning and comes in five soft tones of black, white, grey, blue and nude. Isn't great to have all your utensils within reach when preparing your favorite dish? Well my friends, this will definitely do the trick.

TO BEAT, OR NOT TO BEAT

Inspired by a pack of straws, this space-saving Beater whisk is a sculpture in its own right. Designed by German company Ding3000 for Normann Copenahagen, the whisk is simple, compact and very chic. It is gathered in the middle using a ring that functions as both an opening and closing mechanism and a hanging fixture. I get beyond excited when I find everyday utensils designed not just with practicality in mind but also with great looks—most importantly with so many cool colors to choose from. I'm digging the grey one with the black ring. Which one would you get?

A Bright Spot in The Kitchen

Bright colors, grids and fun, graphic patterns are staples in the work of Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings—the real-life couple behind the Amsterdam studio Scholten & Baijings. These gorgeous tea towels are part of a collection they designed for the Danish house wares company Hay Denmark. They're ideal in size and are made from a high-grade, soft woven cotton. I particularly love the color combinations and the pop of neon they sprinkle in their design.

Creative Settings

How amazing is this series of photographs by Belgium-based photographer Jean-Francois De Witte? By strategically setting everyday kitchen utensils and variously-shaped dishes, Jean-Francois was able to create these whimsical compositions depicting characters and animals. This is imagination and creativity at its best.

Stylish Trash

No more messes while sorting your trash and recyclables. This towering trash can is the answer to your prayers. Created by French industrial designer Constance Guisset in collaboration with Grégory Cid, the TRI3 is a garbage station of sorting with three different canisters. The top bin is for regular trash and includes a handy bag dispenser; the middle one is for packaging, plastic, etc.; and the bottom one is for discarding glass. The best thing about it is that there is no need to get your hands dirty as it has three pedals at the bottom that open each of the containers. Neat-o!

Cool and Dry

Nowadays, dishwashers are a common household appliance, but that's not the case for small-space dwellers. That's when a dish rack comes in handy and a necessary staple in the kitchen. However, there is no need to settle for a sad-looking one, when you can get the stylish and innovative Arena Self-Draining Dish Rack by Studio17 Design. Its compact design provides lots of space for draining and storing plates, bowls, cups, glasses and utensils. Unlike other dish racks, it has flexible ribs that hold crockery securely in place preventing chips and scratches while drying. The distinctive, concentric design and sloping base, channels water away quickly and efficiently, and the integrated spout enables it to be drained directly into the sink.

Making Recycling Fun

I'm all for lending a helping hand to the environment and recycle as much as possible. But it's hard finding recycling bins that are pleasing to the eye, and more importantly, don't take too much space. But that's all changing now with containers like Leco, a new, exciting and colorful solution created by Italian company Flussocreativo. Inspired by the look and functionality of Lego building blocks, these bins can be stacked in different ways to save room. The collection is made up of four different containers: two large ones to hold paper and plastic, and a couple smaller ones for aluminum and glass. Who said you can't be green and have fun at the same time?

Ready to Entertain

Congratulations to Katie, the lucky winner of this fab blue granite cheese board by EcoStone. Her favorite way to entertain is to have a tie-in to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She will often ask everyone to pitch in and make a contribution in their honor, or they'll do a little craft project or activity for all of the cancer-stricken kids at St. Jude. It is a lovely way to combine philanthropy and a great time. So Katie, kudos on your win and your kind heart. Keep up the benevolent entertaining!
