A GREAT NEW ADDITION

When it comes to renovating a kitchen, IKEA, in my humble opinion, is by far your best bet. Ever since I started my love affair with IKEA, I've designed all my kitchens (and even those of my clients) with their fabulous METOD cabinets. They're great fun to design with and truly not very hard to install. But the talent of IKEA never seizes to amaze me. I'm beyond excited they're expanding their already fantastic kitchen system by introducing METOD — a brand new line which is simply to die for. With new cabinet sizes, different door choices and accessories, METOD gives you endless possibilities to design the stylish kitchen you've always wanted. What I love most about this new kitchen line is it's versatility and sleek features. I can't wait to see it in person.

A MASTERFUL RENOVATION

Before going on and on about how fabulous this Parisian pad is, I want to take a moment to wish you all a magnificent 2014. May this year be filled with joy, wonderful surprises and a whole lot of design fabulosity :) OK, now let's get back to drooling a bit more about this newfound jewel in Le Marais. The renovated petit loft is the genius work of architect and interior designer Fleur Delesalle who masterfully created a dreamy place to live for her client. The apartment is divided in two by a double staircase (which I love) creating an almost mirror image of the space—with the living area in one side and the dining/kitchen on the other. I'm impressed by the feeling of space Fleur was able achieve in just 538 square feet including both levels. Simply amazing!

A RENOVATION GONE CHIC

Not everything in a renovation needs to be expensive and complicated. It's all in the approach and design concept of the project. For this Belgian couple, the 5-month renovation of their old brick house seemed to have gone rather smoothly thanks in part to their thoughtful recycling of materials — and of course some elbow grease to lower the cost. The result speaks for itself. The transformation is remarkable and their home is now a warm and inviting environment full of personal touches and chic design solutions.

Have you heard the news? There's a new it hue in the horizon. Pantone, the global authority in color, just announced their pick for Color of the Year 2014. So without further ado here it is: RADIANT ORCHIDa captivating, magical, enigmatic purple—will become the trendiest color in the coming months. This vibrant color will make a big splash in the fashion and beauty industry as well as in the interior design world. The stunning Radiant Orchid is a wonderful accent color that goes great with neutrals and beautifully complements greens and blues. So lets get ready to welcome this newcomer into our pads to brighten things up a bit. I'm ready to give it a chance. Are you? Happy weekend!

A SPLENDID AND REFINED LOFT

There were various challenges with the chaotic layout of this two-story Amsterdam loft. But thanks to a dramatic renovation by Architect Laura Alvarez, the rather claustrophobic space was transformed into a bright, airy, contemporary home that's to die for. The absence of color in the loft's bones is contrasted by the splendid use of color splashes in the furnishings and wonderful art. But if you ask me to choose a key element in the new space I'd have to pick the cantilever staircase that floats between the living and kitchen areas — it's a piece of artwork on its own.

A RUSTIC AND WHIMSICAL FARMHOUSE

I can't get over how cool this century-old farmhouse is. Located in the Netherlands, the converted farmhouse is decorated in a natural and rugged Scandinavian style with strokes of whimsy that makes it so fun. I love the rustic look of the floors and of course the way the left the original wood beams exposed and painted them to be part of their decor — a very clever solution. It looks so cozy that I wouldn't mind being there right now. Happy weekend!

BLACK MAGIC

Black is often a color not everyone falls for at first sight, especially when it comes to one's home decor. It usually takes some getting used to, but at the end it's a choice that most end up loving. There's something magical about this color that makes everything else around it pop and look super chic. The owners of this Hamburg home have used black exquisitely, especially in their kitchen. You might feel an all black kitchen is way too much, but after seeing these pictures there is a big probability you will be changing your mind — it's dramatic and quite stylish. Don't you think?

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

It's been a while since I've shared one of my projects with you. But to tell you the truth I've been so swamped with deadlines that I hadn't had a chance to download any of my photos. In this particular project I had to stage a two-bedroom model apartment for a new building in Brooklyn. They wanted it to look fresh and contemporary to appeal to the new trendy crowd moving into this hot neighborhood. This kind of project is lots of fun but also rather hectic because of the short amount  of time I have to put it together — from purchasing to installation I only have a few weeks. To keep it simple and sophisticated I decided to go for a soft and neutral palette with just a few splashes of color to add personality. I mixed and matched furnishings from a couple of styles that I knew would complete my original design. But for me, accessories are one of the most important details to bring life to any home. Since time was of essence, I had to buy various home accessories online which helped immensely at the end. The key is to find the right objects that will complement the other pieces of the room. From artwork to throw pillows, each accessory should add to the aesthetic value of your home. So have fun when choosing them but never forget they should always represent who you are.
