A CHAIR OUT OF THE BOX

I've seen several interpretations of cardboard furniture, but this latest find, by San Francisco-based designer Dan Goldstein, is one of my favorites. The Re-Ply Reclincer is made with just four layers of upcycled heavy-duty corrugated fiberboard that are cut, laminated, molded and folded into a strong, comfortable shell. The triangular steel base that supports it allows the chair to comfortably rock and recline. You can then use your creativity to dress it up to match your home decor. I'm impressed!

HANDS ON

Having worked as a set designer and window display stylist, I'm over the moon with this installation by London-based design firm Studio Xag, known for their incredible art direction, sets and display projects. As part of the London Design Festival, in collaboration with the University of the Arts, they created this whimsical exhibition called Hands On. “We imagined a party in a shoebox, transformed into a period drawing room, complete with giant matchbox table and huge articulated hands making the finishing touches to the scene. We made everything in craft materials, mainly cardboard & paper to differentiate our work from that of the designers & artists featured”, they explain. The final product is an incredibly smart space full of amazing details and wit. If you want to take a peek and find out what it took to accomplish this fun project go here.

RESPONSIBLE PAINTS

Believe it or not these beautiful color chips are made of recycled paint. Yes, you heard right. British interiors brand Mini Moderns, in collaboration with award-winning Newlife Paints, has created a 12-color collection of environmentally responsible paints. If you're wondering how they managed to do it, here's the scoop. They recover paint that has been thrown away in landfills and convert it into a premium grade matt emulsion with lovely coverage and a chalky finish. How clever is that? Plus the soothing color palette they chose to create is rather lovely.

DESIGN WITH A CONSCIENCE

I'm totally in sync with sustainable design, and love coming across beautiful products and companies, like Slow design, that make an honest effort to preserve our planet. They use the savoir faire and dexterity of Tuscan artisans to recover, re-invent and repurpose objects and give them new life in beautiful and stylish ways. One of my favorites is their gorgeous Vetro collection—a series of containers and lamps designed with recycled glass bottles and hand-turned beech woodwork. It's simply exquisite.

TRASH CHIC

If you still haven't gotten into recycling, these crazy fun trash containers by Hong Kong-based retailers Goodss Passion, will for sure motivate you to get into the habit. The lids for each container are topped with whimsical sculptures of a bottle, a can and a carton to make it easier to recognize each recycling group—and to make recycling fun and convenient for everyone. I'm really fancying these wonderful bins, but sadly my tiny kitchen doesn't have the room to enjoy them. Oh well... maybe yours can.

A WORLD OF BAMBOO

Trying to raise awareness for sustainability in our planet, Danish designer Kristoffer Zeuthen created this gorgeous globe made out of bamboo. Besides sitting pretty on your desk, the globe can also double as a lamp as it's equipped with a light bulb inside. The grain of the bamboo adds a beautiful texture to the world's terrain. I want one!

HYPNOTIC TIMES

One of the many finds that caught my attention at ICFF this year, were these fun eco-friendly, handcrafted cardboard and paper wall clocks made by Tendo Studio. The Amarillo Clocks´ colorful hands break up the concentric rings and angles that look almost hypnotic, creating a fabulous design ideal for homes and offices. The hands are totally customizable. You get to choose from orange, green, blue, white, red or yellow so they can match perfectly with your decor. Aren't they fun?
