IT'S A BOY, AND A GIRL

Inspired by paper doll chains and the gingerbread man, this amusing bookcase is a fresh take on the traditional book cabinet. I'm glad Brazilian architect Henrique Steyer gave life to such an original piece of furniture. In 'boy' or 'girl' versions, this shelf won't go unnoticed. With several wood finishes, gloss and matte lacquer, the Niño bookshelf has a simple design with an ingenious solution. I'm sure kids (and grown ups) will get a kick out of it.

FOR THE SOFTER SIDE OF WINTER

I know it's a bit premature to be posting about Fall when we still about a month and a half left of Summer. But I simply couldn't resist sharing the upcoming collection from the Danish home decor brand Bloomingville. Their Autumn/Winter collection is a beautiful mix of metallics, wood, wool and beautiful patterns. Soft pinks, lavender, peach and grays dominate their new lookbook: a rather unexpected palette for the wintry season—but one that will definitely brighten up your decor on those long and chilly days. I encourage you to browse through their online catalogue here. It's to die for.

MODERN-CLASSIC LOVE

If you're a mid-century modern aficionado like moi, then you know how hard it is to find great pieces at prices that won't break the bank. At times, this can be a frustrating task. But with a growing demand for this timeless style, amazing reproductions are being manufactured so close to the originals that you have to be an expert to tell them apart. I'm always in the lookout for these classic beauties since they add a touch of modernity to any decor without trying so hard. I recently found, Exclusive Mod, a new wonderful online resource that offers a great —and affordable— collection of modern reproductions. So if you happen to be in the market for a Verner Panton style chair or an Arne Jacobsen Egg chair (among many others), then you're in luck. Our friends at Exclusive Mod are extending our readers a unique discount coupon worth 25% off their purchase. It's siimple: just remember to use coupon code DESIGNERPAD25 at checkout. Shop away!

AN IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION

After making the decision to sell her Chelsea loft and Hamptons beach house in order to spend time traveling, stylist/photographer Anita Calero just sold part of her impressive collection of mid-century treasures in 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design sale at Christie’s. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Calero at a photo shoot a few years back in her live/work loft, and I remember being in complete awe of how exquisitely styled her pad was. It was almost as being in the coolest museum where I just wanted to touch everything. I'm sure her new home would be as gorgeous as this one was.

LOCAL MATTER

This past Sunday was such a gorgeous day we took a drive upstate to get away from the city—at least for a few hours. Of course we also took advantage of the day trip to search for some of those wonderful hidden treasures the Hudson Valley has to offer. And what a treasure we found as we walked into Materia Locus (Latin for local matter) — this amazing barn-turned-showroom/gallery with a beautiful collection of furniture, lighting, art and the most incredible industrial antiques from the area. Megan Summerville and Matt Ensner merged their expertise in fashion, movement arts, environmental conservation and landscape design to create this artists' co-op and home design store “born out of their quest for specialized objects that compliment and highlight their eclectic approach to living.” It was truly an unexpected treat to come across this new gem, especially after chit chatting with Megan for a while and getting to know a little bit about them and their cool design vision.

CELEBRATING AN ICON

Someone is celebrating a landmark birthday—and it's not me. Actually, the iconic Hans Wegner‘s Shell Chair is turning 50 and to commemorate the event Danish manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son has partnered with textile company Maharam to create 20 new re-editioned Shell Chairs—each with a different textile and coordinating wood frame. Although it was hard to pick, these are some of my faves. I just love the fabric/wood combo on them. If you want to take a look at the other 13 just click here.

FLIPPING IT AROUND

Leave it to the fabulously ingenious Danish design and architect studio Norm to come up with such a cool multifunctional piece of furniture. The Flip Around Table for Menu is incredibly convenient for small spaces as it gives you the best of both worlds: a beautiful stool for extra seating and a table that can serve as a night stand or side table. How handy is that? I simply love everything they do.
