DIY: A COZY WREATH FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Thanksgiving has come and gone and it's now time to 'Deck The Halls With Boughs And Holly'. This year I was invited by Home Depot to participate in their super fun Holiday Style Challenge. They basically sent be a whole bunch of mystery boxes filled with Holiday goodies to decorate decorate one of the rooms in my pad. Part of the challenge consisted in choosing materials found in their stores and giving them a different use for my Holiday decor. This is how this easy DIY Holiday Wreath project came about. Browsing through their isles I came across Felt Weatherseal which I felt was the prefect material to use in this challenge. Actually it was spot on to create this cozy Holiday ornament. Here's how you can make your own:

CREATING A VISUAL DIALOGUE

The moment I walked into the gorgeous studio/showroom of design duo Megan Sommerville and Matt Ensner in upstate New York I knew I was in for a treat. Not only did I get to meet one of the most talented couples I've ever met, but also was dazzled by the beautiful craftsmanship in their furniture and lighting collection. Founders of Materia Designs, the couple moved to the Hudson Valley a few years back to start their business where they bought an old bungalow in need of loads of TLC. With their creative spirits in overdrive, Megan and Matt didn't think twice to roll up their sleeves and emerged themselves into a challenging renovation. Luckily for us, they have opened the doors of 'The Cape' (as they like call it their nest) to showcase the stunning transformation and the results of their hard work. I recently chatted with Megan about their project of love and some of the ins and outs of the design process. Here is what she said:

LIGHTING WITH AN EYE TO THE PAST

One can never have enough lighting in the home. Maybe I'm just obsessed with it. But besides illuminating every corner of our spaces, lamps are like precious pieces of jewelry that add character to our decor. In the last couple of years there has been, what seems, a welcomed revamp in lighting design with a fine balance between the old and the new and where simplicity reigns. I'm loving these Wood Blodk & Edison Bulb pendants by design duo Quang Hong and Victoria Young from Tightrope. Their modern yet retro look is perfect to create a cozy Fall vignette in a reading nook or as a grouping above the dining room table. Don't you think?

A THRONE-WORTHY CAT

It's been a while since I've come across cool-looking goodies for our fury friends. So I was thrilled to have stumbled upon these wonderful cat pods by Colombian designers Martin Zapata and Susana Mejia of Lord Paw. So if you still haven't decided what to buy your kitty for Holidays this might be your golden ticket. Hop over to their Etsy shop as I'm sure Whiskers will love to snuggle in such a cozy bed.

FOR THE LOVE OF CONCRETE

Concrete is often associated with urban and industrial interiors, but this home in the island of Gotland, Sweden is one exception to the rule. Once an old brewery, the rustic abode is a cozy and warm palace in spite of the amount of cast concrete used throughout. I think the mix of natural elements is just right. The decor's bare simplicity is so soothing and inviting that's hard not to fall in love with it.

THE BLACK HERITAGE BARN

Hey dear friends, I know it's been a while since I last sat down in front of my computer to write a post, but to be tell you the truth the last couple of months have been a little crazy. Needless to say I haven't had the time or energy to find cool stuff to write about :( God knows I've missed it. I can't believe it's already November!! Where has the time gone?! Anyhow, I felt it was time to get back in the swing of things and continue sharing doses of inspiration for y'all, especially with the Holidays fast approaching. Right? So let's get to it. Being that today is Monday, I thought this dreamy barn renovation from the Czech Republic would be the perfect burst of inspiration to start the week of. The amazing transformation was done by Oooox design firm with the utmost level of coolness and fabulosity. I'm loving how a minimalistic approach works so well for a countryside retreat. Despite is restrained color palette, the Boooox Heritage Barn still feel warm and inviting. By the way it feels good to be back!

SLEEPING IN THE PAST

The opportunity of staying in a Middle Age monastery doesn't come along very often, especially in one that has been gorgeously transformed into a luxurious hotel. "What we wanted for Fontevraud was not the classic hotel and restaurant experience, but something unique; a journey between tradition and modernity that reinterprets the story of Saint-Lazare for the future, marrying emotion, sensual pleasure and poetry," explained designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku of Agence Jouin Manku who steer headed the stunning renovation. With a simple palette of wood, metal and fabrics the creative duo created a serene atmosphere that complements and brings forth the history of the building. Simply put, this hotel is a heavenly place to kick back and relax.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT

Today, we embark on a make-believe trip over the Atlantito take a tour of this spectacular penthouse in Marseille, France. For interior designer Francois Champsaur the sky was literally the limit when he was comissioned to renovate the top floor apartment of an old storage building. His vision was to create an open-layout plan where light navigates the spacious rooms of this modern home. The designer has the amazing talent of playing with proportions and color incorporating pieces that make a dramatic statement — like that amazing oversized round mirror sitting on one corner of the living room. I mean WOW!
