SILVER LININGS

This concrete-centric hotel is a new hospitality haven in Los Angleles' Koreantown. Designer Sean Knibb of Knibb Design is responsible for the stylish and modern look of The Line Hotel's minimalist yet striking interiors — where he introduced a variety of textures, patterns and colors to balance out the powering presence of concrete. I'm mildly obsessed with the overall vision of this gorgeous hotel.

WORTHY OF A CELEBRATION

To celebrate Cinco De Mayo I thought I would take you on a virtual getaway to Mexico City. And what better place to stay that at the chic and colorful Condesa DF Hotel  — located in the historic district of Condesa, hence the name. Its happy design, by interior designer India Mahdavi, merges the bohemian spirit of the neighborhood with a fresh and modern style. A vibrant turquoise blue it's quite the perfect color to set off the rich wooden and cowhide textures in the hotel's lobby and bar—where I think we would toast with a couple of margaritas to the occasion. Cheers!

ART NOUVEAU MEETS MODERN ELEGANCE

Celebrating the building's 100th anniversary, the Parisian jewel Hotel Vernet underwent a jaw-dropping restoration by interior designer François Champsaur. The results: a wonderful combination of Art Nouveau and modern elegance. Besides its stylish new interiors, the hotel houses a magnificent glass ceiling designed by none other that Gustave Eiffel himself—a rather good reason to pay the staple hotel a visit. Happy travels!

BUILT AROUND HISTORY AND CULTURE

Formerly a homeless shelter and a strip club, The Dean hotel is the new talk of the town in Providence, Rhode Island. Built around the history and culture of Providence, this charming 52-room boutique hotel is filled with custom furniture, craftwork from local purveyors and found objects from Europe and beyond. If you happen to be in the area, The Dean is a must place to stay in, specially if you're looking for a mellow yet friendly inn. But if you're just passing by, do stop to at least partake on some serious singing in The Boombox, Providence only karaoke lounge. Happy weekend!

COLONIAL MEETS INDUSTRIAL MODERN

One of the many things Mexico City is known for is for its modern and innovative architecture. But this colonial revival stunner is also a sight to be seen. Located in ‘El Zocalo’ right in the city center, the beautiful Downtown Mexico Hotel merges the magnificent Mexican colonial style with a contemporary and industrial vibe. The new, modern identity and character of the boutique hotel was conceived and designed by Cherem Serrano Arquitectos. I'm amazed how brilliantly they incorporated such a basic material as Mexican red bricks to create sculptural dividers in the guest rooms and also as protagonist in other areas of the hotel. I love the whole juxtaposition of the old and new!

A GUESTHOUSE WITH A TWIST

One this is to stay in a bed & breakfast filled with a unique collection of mid-century modern treasures, but then be able to buy them is something else. Bea Mombaers had the rather unique idea to transform an old Belgian farmhouse into a fabulous B&B where her guests can shop their way through their stay. I know I would walk away with a couple of pieces from her collection.

WARM MINIMALISM

This might not look like your typical hotel room, but rather like a fabulouusly designed set of a futuristic movie. But these minimalist interiors are in fact part of the new OKKO Nantes Château designed by Parisian designer Patrick Norguet. The four-star hotel in West France promises a very unique lodging experience to its guests and one to be remembered for the stylishly warm and minimalist rooms where white is king.

A MODEL CITIZEN

A new breed of design hotels, CitizenM hotels are taking major cities by storm. They've recently conquered the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands by opening their latest venue. The new 151-room citizenM hotel features the chain's trademark modern design that attracts so many trendy travelers in search of affordable luxury. Designed by Concrete Architectural Associates, the hotel's eclectic style incorporates a wonderful collection of accessories and artifacts that make direct reference to the city's rich maritime history. By the way, a few months back I found out they're going to be opening a CitizenM here in New York City, so I'm counting the days for its doors to open so I can stop by and take a peek at what they come up this time. Stay tuned! Happy weekend!
