LIVING WITH PALLETS

If there's one thing I miss most living in the Big Apple is S-P-A-C-E! As you know square footage doesn't come cheap in this city. Living in just 500 square feet has helped me realize the importance of scale when designing a room. Of course, after seeing this magnificent loft located in the heart of Florence I can't help but have a bit of space envy. Do you blame me? Florence-based Studio q-bic converted the attic of a 19th century industrial building into the “Pallets Loft”—a home worth drooling for. One of the features I can't get enough of is their clever use of palettes (hence its name) in such unexpected ways. I'm amazed how cool they look as a kitchen island as well as in the bathroom as a vanity. How inventive!

EFFECTIVE SIMPLICITY

I always find that the simpler the object is, the more beautiful its design tends to be. Take for instance this minimalist Clamp Lamp designed by Swedish architect Andreas Martin-Löf. By simply using off-the-shelf lighting parts and attaching them to a handmade metal clamp, Andreas created a wonderfully cool and stylish table lamp. I'm telling you, it's all in the craftsmanship and details. I'd say this is my crush of the week.

MIX & MATCH

I'm all for mixing decorative styles, as long as they complement each other to make the best of a home. This charming Stockholm apartment is a perfect example of this, where a variety of styles come together beautifully. As a big fan of the IKEA's aesthetic and innovation, I'm glad to see how well the owners have managed to seamlessly incorporate different pieces from the Swedish famed brand into their eclectic decor—making them their own by adding personal touches. The secret is in the balance between the new and the old and not limiting yourself to one specific style. Be daring and listen to your creative side.

A PEACEFUL SPACE

The ultimate simplicity of Finnish design is what makes this airy country home a peaceful and tranquil environment. Homeowner Ulla Koskinen, designer for Finnish firms like Marimekko and Artek, worked alongside her husband to create this magnificent open-layout floorplan for their home—where they both live and work. Using concrete, wood and glass, combined with mostly a gray and black palette, they achieved a very clean yet rustic feel. Much of the wood used in the construction came from fallen trees around the property. "The best thing about living here is the wide-open space, the peaceful feeling and the calming views. And that we are now more aware and sensitive to change of seasons,” explained Ulla to Nuevo Estilo.

A DREAMY FLAT TO CALL HOME

It doesn't matter from which angle you look at this Parisian flat, you can find the touch of a designer (or two) behind its stunning design. Patrick Gilles & Dorothée Boissier, who run an architecture and design studio, have renovated this 19th-century apartment into their dream home. Through the transformation, they saved all the original glory the apartment had and brought into play, to contrast, they're modern design concept. The artwork is to die for, especially how it's randomly placed throughout the space. Of course, a lot of the furniture we see here was designed by the talented duo to make sure it fit their impeccable taste. Thank you Yatzer for enlightining us with this beauty.

OH LA LA!

Learning how to speak French has always been a dream of mine — one I know I'll get to one day. So when I found this funky print I thought it was hillarious and a sign that I needed to share them with you today. These quirky, modern and graphic lithographs by One Must Dash are a fun way of injecting some humor into your decor. Happy weekend!

IN PERFECT HARMONY

I'm always curious to find out where and how other design bloggers live, and today I'm letting you in my latest find. This darling flat belongs to fellow blogger Desiree from Vosges Paris. A Parisian stylist, painter and DIY'er living in Amsterdam, Desiree is in constant search of the perfect harmony between her love for French grays and Scandinavian white. “It's a cliche to say you can find inspiration everywhere around you but I think there is something true about it”, she explains. “I guess it is  all about what you do with it. If I come across something I like, I can use it some other time in combination with a new find”. She has a great eye for mixing pieces and styles, which she uses splendidly to tell stories in charming vignettes throughout her home. Thank you Desiree for sharing your place and inspiring us all with your splendid sense of style.

A NEW RESOLUTION

At the beginning of every new year we challenge ourselves to lead a better, healthier and more fruitful life by coming up with a list of resolutions to keep us in track. Mine are often the same: exercise more, eat a sensible diet and be nicer to the planet. However, this year I added living a clutter-free life by pairing down on unnecessary stuff around the house and keeping it simple. To sort of inspire myself to do that, I felt these gorgeous images by the talented photographer Trevor Tondro were great inspiration to have around. I love their striking simplicity and how beautifully arranged each one of them is. How about you? Do you have any resolutions fo this year?
