Minimal Splendor

Continuing with my fascination for Scandinavian aesthetics, how about this striking penthouse in Copenhagen by NORM Architects? NORM is a Danish multidisciplinary design studio whose primary goal is to create useful products, appealing design, and architecture that captures and inspires life. They tend to work with a very simple and sophisticated color palette of black, white and gray, which to me works exquisitely in these minimalist interiors. And those squeaky-clean white floors are killing me. I want them so bad!

A Parisian Diamond in the Rough

The moment I started my love affair with Paris, I knew right away I wanted to live in this magical city at one point in my life. That dream hasn't come true yet, but I know deep in my heart it will someday. But for New York interior designer Kein Cross, it already did. When I was browsing through The New York Times Home & Garden section yesterday, as I routinely do on Thursdays, I came across his wonderful story telling how he was able to make his longtime dream of moving to Paris come true. He was lucky to find this adorable 18th century courtyard house near Notre Dame, ”it was a diamond in the rough.” With the help of a contractor, his design expertise and the use of black, white and gray, he was able to transform this 19 feet wide by 6 1/2 feet deep two-story tiny house into a gem. Of course, with lots of ingenuity and the clever use of mirrors, Cross made it look more spacious than it actually is. But don't take my word for it. You must see the before pictures to fully appreciate the incredible transformation. His story got me all excited and got me thinking, and it reaffirms what I've always believed: we must follow our heart and live our dreams. Happy weekend!!

Under The Danish Sun

Architects nowadays have no boundaries when designing homes to fit our modern lifestyle. This rather angular and unique house, set in the Danish woods, belongs to a family of four. The living area was designed as a big bright central room where the kitchen, dining and lounge area are located. Soaring floor to ceiling windows on either side of the space bathe the space with natural light all day long. The decor is quite simple yet striking, with the unexpected touch of red velvet curtains that soften the rather crisp black and white interiors — and with pops of sunny yellow throughout the house to add a ray of whimsy. Another delightful home I wanted to share with you today. Enjoy!

Dimmed Glamour

Yesterday, New York City woke up to a very rainy, gloomy and dark Sunday — one of those days that all you want to do is curl up and enjoy your home. So in that state of mind, I decided to dedicate today's post to exquisitely designed interiors with dark, but drop dead gorgeous ambiance. Not because you choose to use dusky colors in your decor means that they need to be gloomy. To the contrary, dark shades of gray and even black can create dreamy and cozy spaces. Just be smart about it and do it cautiously. Always use a dash of color to break up the monochromatic palette. So don't be afraid of the dark, dare to be stylish and bring some mystery into your life.

Moooi: beautiful

I have always been a huge fan of Marcel Wanders, Dutch designer and one of the masterminds behind the outrageously creative design company MOOOI, which means BEAUTIFUL in Dutch - they decided to add an extra O because it's extra beautiful. The original store is located in Amsterdam, but as of yesterday the British capital has the amazing pleasure to house the first permanent showroom and UK headquarters.
