WRITING ON THE WALL

There's nothing like creating art for your own home, but this London-born artist has taken this idea a step further. Well, actually, several walls further. Shantell Martin has made it a project to cover the whole top floor a Brooklyn brownstone with her whimsical line drawings. When she first moved in, her intention was to limit her drawings to parts of a wall in her room, but inch by inch her art spontaneously took over her office and laundry room walls. Apparently, she draws on everything that comes her way, which explains her crazy fun refuge. She's even taken bottles she found on the street as canvas to display her freestyle drawings. I wonder if her mom ever let her paint on the walls when she was little. She's definitely getting away with it now. And I'm glad she is, since I'm really digging her style. Have a designful and relaxing Holiday weekend!

INNER BEAUTY

Today, I thought I would take a small detour from the road of fabulous interiors to share with you these phenomenal and unique X-ray photographic prints by English artist Nick Veasey. Through his art, Nick likes “to counter the obsession with superficial appearance [we all seem to have] using X-rays to strip back the layers and show what is like under the surface.” The themes of his collections vary: from plant life, insects, fashion, toys, animals to aquatic life, man and machine. I'm simply in awe of his creativity and the beautiful imagery he captures using this technology. You can see more of his incredible work in his website and in this Limited Editions Catalogue.

AN EYE FOR INTERIORS

Her passion for photography and design is what inspired Dutch photographer Marjon Hoogervorst to shoot amazing spaces. Ever since she was young, Marjon spent time photographing her room with all her hand-crafted creations. To no surprise, she has become a stellar artist capturing the essence and soul of people's homes, like this stunning Amsterdam apartment. “The places where people live tell a lot about them. That's what inspires me—that's what I like to photograph most,” she says. I encourage you to take a few minutes to browse through her beautiful portfolio here. Enjoy it!

PICTURE PERFECT

This fine pad is a shining example that bringing your work home can be a good thing. For interior stylist Joanna Lavéncreating a sensitive mix of internet furniture bargains from Ebay with fun decorative arts is her thing. Being fond of the 1950s style and attracted by slick shapes, she creates beautiful environments both at work and at her central Stockholm home. Her secret for a picture-perfect room: keep them simple and clutter-free, and try to keep cables neatly organized and out of sight when possible. A gal after my own heart!

STYLE COMES IN SMALL PACKAGES

It's hard to believe this jewel of an apartment is barely 420 square-feet. The whole studio was so cleverly planned that they were able to accommodate a living area, an eat-in kitchen, a cozy sleeping quarter and even a small home office—all done exquisitely with plenty of style. The use of black and white was key to giving the space a cohesive look and a feeling of continuity, which makes the pad seem more spacious that it actually is. The combination of styles is delicious, particularly the mix of pendants in the dining area. What's not to love about this charming home?

A STRIKING HABITAT

A casual and exclusive environment surrounded by black, white and gray welcomes guests everyday at the hip Hotel Habita in Monterrey, Mexico. Behind the minimalist, concrete front desk visitors can admire a wall mosaic made of hand-made mirrored tiles brought from India. Every single space in the hotel is sleek, dramatic and filled with timeless classics like Swan Chairs by Arne Jacobsen and furniture from avant-garde designer Rick Owens. The hyper-modern interiors were created by Parisian design extraordinaire Joseph Dirand, the creative mind behind the stupendous Hotel Distrito Capital in Mexico City—which I featured here not long ago. This one is most definitely going on my list of favorite boutique hotels.

A TRIO TO SHOWCASE

Finding beautiful bathroom accessories at times can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to items like a toilet brush and the not-so-attractive plunger. You know we've all been there. But guess what? This sleek, modern—but with a twist of old-school practicality—bathroom trio by Josh Owen will make your bathrooms shine. The WC Line is a space-conscious and highly functional line of bathroom accessories that includes a waste bin, toilet brush and plunger—made from ultra durable silicone in a range of super cool colors. The design of all three pieces is so beautiful and simple that you won't feel the need to hide them but will want to proudly display for all to see and covet.

NORDIC SENSE & SENSIBILITY

One of the things I love most about Nordic design is the sensibility to humor in its decor. It's those quirky touches that add a casual and effortless feel to every Scandinavian interior. This lovely home in Skåne, Sweden, is a fine model to follow if that's the look you're aiming for. Take for instance, the casual use of bulb string lights candidly freely from some of the curtain rods. But I'm most fascinated by the white dining table with just one of its legs partially painted in black. Love, love, love! Any which way you turn, you find fun and spontenous vignettes that will keep your entertained for a while.
