A DESK'S NEW LIFE

Repurposing old pieces of furniture, garage sale finds or family heirlooms is always a fun DIY project to work on. I recently found and old, shabby desk I knew would work great as a bathroom vanity for a project I was working on. With a couple of coats of paint, a new glass top and fresh hardware, I was able to transform a beaten down desk into a brand new piece for this bathroom. You can see the whole process here.

NEW YORK INSPIRED

If you've ever wished your pad looked like a hotel suite, this  luxurious home might be the right source of inspiration for you. Using the Big Apple as muse, its owner achieved the look of a fancy hotel room by using exclusive materials, clean surfaces and a sober color scheme with rich color punches. Having stained the floors dark was key in making the apartment look sophisticated and urban. Of course, for me the blood orange pendant over the coffee table is the pièce de résistance—a clever way of centering the living area. Another cool trick was the use of white sheer curtains to create an alcove bedroom, enough to make it private when desired. A job well done! On that note... have a delicious weekend!

A DREAMY RENOVATION

I've always dreamed of having a sizable bathroom—one big enough for twin sinks, a tub, a shower and plenty of space to walk around. But being a New York City dweller, that dream is hardly attainable. That's why I almost fell off my chair when I spotted this spectacular ensuite bedroom/bath renovation by Jonathan King and his partner Michael. They've done a magnificent job, especially at making both rooms work so well together by using an open floor plan which, by the way, I find super sexy. Of course, I'm also mad about their choice of black and white as a palette plus their exquisite use of accessories. Oh, and how cool is that headboard made with a vintage map? Simply superb!! I'm so green with envy.

A TRIO TO SHOWCASE

Finding beautiful bathroom accessories at times can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to items like a toilet brush and the not-so-attractive plunger. You know we've all been there. But guess what? This sleek, modern—but with a twist of old-school practicality—bathroom trio by Josh Owen will make your bathrooms shine. The WC Line is a space-conscious and highly functional line of bathroom accessories that includes a waste bin, toilet brush and plunger—made from ultra durable silicone in a range of super cool colors. The design of all three pieces is so beautiful and simple that you won't feel the need to hide them but will want to proudly display for all to see and covet.

Room for Pampering

The bathroom tends to be the smallest room in the home, but one that is often neglected when it comes to creativity and design. Whether a powder room or a full bath, it should reflect who you are. Your bathroom should be a little oasis and room where to pamper yourself everyday, so why not make it special and heavenly. With the amount of fabulous fixtures, fun tiles and fantastic accessories choices at your reach, there's no reason why you can't have the bathroom you have always wanted. It's all about having fun and thinking out of the box, the sky is the limit. Here are some dreamy bathrooms for inspiration photographed by the talented Mel Yates. Happy Friday!

Living In 500 Sq. Feet • The Bathroom

I know, it has taken me a while to post more juicy details about our pad's renovation. But don't worry. Today I'm giving you all the fun background on our itty-bitty (4’6” x 7’8”) bathroom facelift. For me, the bathroom is one of the most important spaces in a home. I remember when we went to see the apartment for the first time and took a glance at the bathroom , I almost fainted. It was sooooo 70's. The bathtub and toilet were olive green and the vanity white Formica. But wait, the best part: the toilet seat was black, yeap, BLACK! I knew right away everything had to go.
