THE MAGIC OF BLACK

Being that today we're celebrating Halloween, I thought it would be fun to treat you to a few magical and alluring spaces stunningly decorated in darker color palettes where black is king. Not a color that most people love, black is a beautiful hue that works great in interiors. Like the little black dress, this rich hue dresses up a room giving it a sense of drama and sophistication. Whether used in small accents or painting a whole room, you will find this bewitching color is perfect to make a statement with. Have a spookylicious Halloween!

TELLING A STORY THROUGH ART

How would you like start your week by taking a short trip to Mexico City? The trek might be worth just to visit the charming restaurant Malamén. Located in the trendy neighborhood of Polanco, the eatery was designed by Ricardo Casas Design Office with one of the most fun collection of memorabilia and wall art I've seen in a while. It's very interesting the way they created different visual stories in every single wall vignette which give the restaurant a homey and eclectic flair. It looks like a delightful place to grab a bite to eat.

A BEAUTY FROM THE PAST

I'm sure it's hard finding any potential in an old, rickety garage for military vehicles with holes in the roof. But for Swedish architects Henry and Lotta Imberg it was quite easy. After looking a various houses to turn into their dream holiday home, the couple fell in love with the rustic look, proximity to the sea and the unique landscape of this abandoned building. They were hoping to find an unconventional structure with lots of character they could make their own. And so the did. Wanting to keep the integrity of the old garage, they opted for a open layout — only adding a couple of partitions to separate the living and sleeping areas. The use of raw plywood combined with the beautiful slate blue and soft black, creates a stunning contrast that gives the Imberg home a beautiful yet primitive quality.

A MODERN TWIST ON THE PAST

The industrial trend seems to be stronger now more than ever. All the new home decor collections have taken some sort of inspiration from this retro, rustic style. I personally love this look as it's way of bringing back a bit of the past to our homes. IKEA has truly kicked some butt with their new RANARP lighting line — a modern twist of the vintage industrial lamps. The beautiful fixtures are made of white powder-coated steel, brass-colored trimmings and textile covered wires to complete the look. From pendants to desk lamps, the whole collections is to die for.

LIVING SMALL BUT IN STYLE

With mere 226 square feet of space, this tiny Madrid apartment has stretched its diminutive size to the max. The narrow 100m3 apartment was designed by Studio MYCC, who maximized every single inch available. They were able to ”accommodate several pieces, which are limited in volume but at the same time all are visually connected to each other. Even the bathroom is within sight.” Its simple and spare decor also helps to visually enlarge this urban shelter. It's amazing what they did.

ECLECTIC AND MAGICAL

Home is where the heart is, and for British artist and designer Rory Dobner this amazing place is where he loves to live and work. His love for everything vintage played a key role when it came to decorating his home in a rather peculiar and eclectic style. Sumptuous materials like cashmere, mohair and velvets, and gemstone colors like rubies, emeralds and topaz give a rich look to the home. Of course, no artist pad would be complete without the personal touches of his own art. Rory's whimsical artwork adds the final touches to this already magical dwelling.
