With Christmas only hours away, I'm sure most of your are still frantically running around trying to do some last minute shopping and getting your home ready to welcome family and friends —for sure I am. Before heading upstate, and before checking out until the beginning of the year, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a day filled with love, happiness and MANY surprises under the tree. Enjoy every minute of it and cherish the company of your loved ones. Have a designful Holiday... and Cheers!
It's that time of year when we all have a list of small projects around the house to get it ready for holidays and our guests. One that I have been putting off for a while, but I knew I couldn't procrastinate any longer, was revamping this cute little vintage desk I found a few months back in one of our many trips upstate New York. Don't get me wrong, the desk was in pretty good shape but I felt a fresh coat of paint will liven it up and give it a new fresh look. As a contributor blogger to MyColortopia, I came across this amazing Glidden Trim & Door paint that I knew would work wonders for my project. Since it's an oil base paint, I knew it would give it the glossy, lacquer-like finish I was going for.
A new breed of design hotels, CitizenM hotels are taking major cities by storm. They've recently conquered the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands by opening their latest venue. The new 151-room citizenM hotel features the chain's trademark modern design that attracts so many trendy travelers in search of affordable luxury. Designed by Concrete Architectural Associates, the hotel's eclectic style incorporates a wonderful collection of accessories and artifacts that make direct reference to the city's rich maritime history. By the way, a few months back I found out they're going to be opening a CitizenM here in New York City, so I'm counting the days for its doors to open so I can stop by and take a peek at what they come up this time. Stay tuned! Happy weekend!
Not everything in a renovation needs to be expensive and complicated. It's all in the approach and design concept of the project. For this Belgian couple, the 5-month renovation of their old brick house seemed to have gone rather smoothly thanks in part to their thoughtful recycling of materials — and of course some elbow grease to lower the cost. The result speaks for itself. The transformation is remarkable and their home is now a warm and inviting environment full of personal touches and chic design solutions.
Have you heard the news? There's a new it hue in the horizon. Pantone, the global authority in color, just announced their pick for Color of the Year 2014. So without further ado here it is: RADIANT ORCHID—a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple—will become the trendiest color in the coming months. This vibrant color will make a big splash in the fashion and beauty industry as well as in the interior design world. The stunning Radiant Orchid is a wonderful accent color that goes great with neutrals and beautifully complements greens and blues. So lets get ready to welcome this newcomer into our pads to brighten things up a bit. I'm ready to give it a chance. Are you? Happy weekend!
There were various challenges with the chaotic layout of this two-story Amsterdam loft. But thanks to a dramatic renovation by Architect Laura Alvarez, the rather claustrophobic space was transformed into a bright, airy, contemporary home that's to die for. The absence of color in the loft's bones is contrasted by the splendid use of color splashes in the furnishings and wonderful art. But if you ask me to choose a key element in the new space I'd have to pick the cantilever staircase that floats between the living and kitchen areas — it's a piece of artwork on its own.
