WELCOMING 2013

In just a few hours the New Year will start, and boy I have a feeling it's going to be an amazing one for all of us. On my end, many new projects are on the horizon and I know a few of dreams will be coming a reality—and I want the same and much more for each and everyone of you. Whatever plans you might concocted to kick off 2013, I hope you partake in something fun and festive in the company of loved ones. At midnight I plan to be in Central Park to toast the New Year and cheer the many runners in costume that will join the yearly Midnight Run around the park. Cheers and I wish you and fun and healthy New Year!!

A TIMELESS CLASSIC

With just a couple of days left until we ring in 2013, time is running out to get a cool calendar for your wall. There are tons and tons of options out there, but if you're looking for something stylish and timeless, I'd consider Massimo Vignelli's Perpetual Wall Calendar. First introduced in 1980, this classic (and my all-time favorite) calendar can be used month after month, year after year while being a super graphic piece or art for your home office.

THE RUB OF THE GREEN

Is your home styled to a T to welcome the New Year? It might be time to rejuvenate your decor with a lively, radiant, lush Emerald green–chosen by Pantone as Color of the Year for 2013. Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and rich. Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life. The jewel-like tone will create a luxurious feel in any room. Just add a splash of it with accessories or small pieces of furniture to infuse a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation to your home. Here are some stylish, on-trend accents that will help you create your own Emerald City. Watch out Oz!

UNDERSTATED BEAUTY

Not everyone falls for minimalist spaces, but when done right they can be rather beautiful. The clean lines and clutter-free rooms makes this home visually stunning. Architect John Pawson and his wife Catherine used various shades of white to create subtle depth, but also included concrete, wood and bronze to give elegance and texture to the decor. The living room was specifically designed with an array of seating pieces arranged by the fireplace to create an area for quite contemplation. I don't know about you, but I feel extremely serene by just looking at the quietness of their sanctuary.

A BACHELOR PAD LIKE NO OTHER

This is not your typical bachelor pad. To the contrary. This Berlin rather spacious pied-à-terre is home to landscape architect Guido Hager when he's visiting the German capital from his home base in Zurich. The apartment is at the fourth floor of an historic building with alluring vistas of the city's charming local streets. Although the apartment was in need of complete renovation, Guido was ultimately captivated by the amount of wall space where he could display his brightly-colored art collection. I'm glad he kept the ornate details of the lofty ceilings as it adds a beautiful contrast to his minimalist and modern decor.

A HOLIDAY SHOPPING STORY

With only four days left until Christmas, most likely people will spend this weekend running around in a craze trying to get their last minute shopping done. So in that spirit I thought I'd post this fun and witty series of vignettes shot by the always talented and creative Carl Kleiner. Created for Stockholm's Arlanda International Airport shopping area, the Christmas campaign is incredibly clever. I'm telling you, this guy never stops to amaze me. Happy weekend!
