Awaiting The New Year

There are only a few hours left of 2011, and as the world gets ready to ring in the New Year I'm preparing my pad for a small gathering with family and friends. The theme: Black-and-White Chic with an international flair since most attending are from different parts of globe. One thing is for sure, it's going to be a melting pot of New Year's Eve traditions under one roof. Having grown up in Venezuela, I can't receive 2012 without some of the things my family and I used to do. One that is mandatory, is eating 12 grapes 12 seconds before Midnight for good luck—of course with a glass of bubbly to wash them down. But if you're hoping for something more specific from the New Year, there are others that are quite fun. My favorite one is to jump into the New Year with a suitcase in hand hoping for a year filled of travels and new adventures. But if you want to start anew, throwing a bucket full of water from your entry door should do the trick (but look out for people walking by so you don't get in trouble). Others belief wearing something red or yellow will bring good energy in the New Year. But whatever your traditions are, I wish you have a marvelous time welcoming another year filled with fabulousness. Happy 2012 to all!!!

Carpets With a Message

If you like home furnishings that make a statement, these rugs by Swedish designer Therese Sennerholt will definitely do the trick. You probably recognized her work from her trademark black and white graphic posters and postcards displaying fun everyday quotes. But now she's expanding her collection to include these witty rugs she's designing in collaboration with Swedish carpet company a.carpet. Don't you love them?

A Very Eco-chic Home

Written by guest blogger Ellen Spencer

Going green has become the buzzword: you need to keep up the eco-savvy routine even while decorating your home. Lately, chemicals used in and around the house are attracting a lot of flak; they interfere with our physical well being and can cause illnesses like migraines, allergies, colds, respiratory diseases and also cancer. Hence, it is absolutely crucial to change the way we live and aggrandize our interiors to support ecological sustenance. So if one of your New Year's resolution is to help the environment, here are a few pointers that will help you design an eco-chic home. (Reclaimed wood dining table and recycled Crystal Chair from Canvas).

Chilled With Style

Just in time for your New Year's bash, the Belgian fashion house Maison Martin Margiela has come out with this rather insane Champagne Bucket as part of their Line 13 Collection. Made of polished stainless steel and crafted to resemble an industrial paint pail, the bucket holds up to seven liters and has a hinged top handle with notch at center. I'd say it's the perfect container to chill a few bottles of your favorite bubbly and ring the New Year in style.

Joy To All!

Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays for being one to gather and celebrate with family and friends. It's a time to be joyful and merry. So I want to wish you and your family a truck-load of happiness and love on this special day—and of course hope Santa was good to you. xo, Eduardo

A Bright Spot in The Kitchen

Bright colors, grids and fun, graphic patterns are staples in the work of Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings—the real-life couple behind the Amsterdam studio Scholten & Baijings. These gorgeous tea towels are part of a collection they designed for the Danish house wares company Hay Denmark. They're ideal in size and are made from a high-grade, soft woven cotton. I particularly love the color combinations and the pop of neon they sprinkle in their design.

Brushing It Up

I would've never thought of using cleaning brushes to hang my coats, until I found this playful coat and umbrella stand by Les M Design Studio. Made of wood and fiber, the Heli is a rather poetic interpretation that doesn't compromise its functionality. Les M are known for creating products that provide a new take on the rituals of everyday life by using materials that appeal to the sense of touch. Their idea is for us to interact with their products and give free rein to our imagination. BTW, today is the last day of our Holiday Giveaway, so if you haven't already entered, you can do so here. Happy Friday!
