BRILLIANT INGENUITY

I've come across many multi-functional, space-saver pieces of furniture, but this slick desk is one of my favorites. Deskbox is a brilliant wall-mounted desk/cabinet unit designed by Israel-born, UK-based designers Yael Mer and Shay Akalay of Raw Edges studio for Dutch furniture company Arco. It has a retraction system that allows it to easily open and reveal a comfortable work space, and close to its original compact form. Either way, it's a beautiful piece of furniture.

Living Out of a Box

I don't know about you, but I don't like moving. Although I've moved quite a bit throughout my life, I like staying put in one place and enjoying my home for a while. But if you're the kind of person who's on the move all the time and tired of living out of packing boxes, I just found the perfect thing for you. The Caluso Concept gives people the flexibility and mobility to change residence without the hassle of packing and unpacking. It's a complete set of room furniture which can be set up (without any tools) in less than ten minutes and later disassembled and repacked in a whim. Believe it or not, the 31.5” by 47.2” box includes a wardrobe, a large desk/table, a separate cabinet with locking drawers, a revolving and height-adjustable desk chair, two stools, a single bed with a mattress and a tall set of shelves. But if you're concerned about storage, the stools and the desk drawers of the desk cabinet also double as additional storage containers. Quite unbelievable!

Versatile seating

Designers nowadays are faced with many challenges when having to come up with new lines of furniture, especially by the reduction of living spaces. They're always in the look out for new ideas and ways of maximizing their functionality. And when looking for new seating alternatives, I was wowed by all of these kooky solutions. Is it a chair or a lamp? Is it a bench or a bookcase? Is it a magazine rack or a stool? The answers: all of the above. These seating wonders had their job descriptions doubled — besides giving us a place to sit, they also help us live clutter-free.  Thanks to the ingenuity of these designers, those of us living small, now can enjoy some free space. Turn it on, grab a book, sit back and relax!
