CAPITALS OF COLOR

I've seen many interpretations of city maps, but these colorful and graphic renderings are one of my favorites. Created by self-taught artist known as Jazzberry Blue, these gallery quality giclée prints are a great way of having a piece of your favorite capital on your wall. The color combinations used are quite unique and unexpected. They're different and super fun! If you love this style, you will also love the rest of this artist's body of work that you can find here.

A SPLASH OF COPPER-TONE

Metallics have always played a strong role in home decor, but the on-trend metallic for the incoming season seems to be copper. This precious metal has evolved from a patina-like finishes to a very sleek and shiny surface. Thanks to its new renaissance, I've been seeing an avalanche of copper furnishings everywhere I go. From kitchen appliances to trendy bicycles, the selection is quite extensive. Its beautiful color makes it easy to mix with other natural materials and works beautifully with pastels, grays and earth tones... and of course, black. Now, there's no need to go crazy with this trend, adding one or two touches of cooper in your decor will be just right. Here are just a few of my favorite picks from the trend. (Love the bike!)

FOR THE SOFTER SIDE OF WINTER

I know it's a bit premature to be posting about Fall when we still about a month and a half left of Summer. But I simply couldn't resist sharing the upcoming collection from the Danish home decor brand Bloomingville. Their Autumn/Winter collection is a beautiful mix of metallics, wood, wool and beautiful patterns. Soft pinks, lavender, peach and grays dominate their new lookbook: a rather unexpected palette for the wintry season—but one that will definitely brighten up your decor on those long and chilly days. I encourage you to browse through their online catalogue here. It's to die for.

DESIGN ON WHEELS

This super chic little caravan puts cool back into camping. Danish company Design Camp recovers old retro caravans and refurbishes them to give them a second chance on life. After an impressive and much-deserved restoration, the trailers are transformed into modern mini boutique hotels on wheels equipped with custom bunk beds, graphic wallpaper and a trendy decor. Not a bad incentive to go on a road trip.

GRILLING IN STYLE

Just in time to kick off the grilling season, and the unofficial start of Summer, I wanted to share with you this stunner of a BBQ grill designed by Barcelona designers Mermeladaestudio. The geometric design of the stainless-steel grill will create a far more interesting pattern on your food. “It shows elegance and its aesthetics are planned as if it was a piece of furniture. Its shape and size is ideal for reduced outdoor spaces, ” the designers explain. Have a phenomenal holiday weekend!

A BUG ON THE WALL

I don't know about you but bugs are not my cup of tea. But these in particular are so cool that I wouldn't mind having them up on my wall. Danish photographers Mads Hagedorn-Olsen and Anders Morell's passion for insects and tiny winged creatures inspired them to photograph selected types of beetles and butterflies to create a beautiful series of art prints. The limited edition prints have a look that conjures up visions of old silk screen images. I'm digging them so much that I'm seriously thinking of bringing a couple of these precious critters into my home.

INSPIRED BY THE PAST

I'm always fascinated to learn how designers come about their wonderful creations. A few weeks back I visited my dear friend and talented designer Deborah Ehrlich at her gorgeous Hudson Valley farmhouse (which I featured here) and had a glimpse at one of her new pieces — the Crystal Jelly Jar Shade. Although she's mostly known for her paper thin, clear-as-water, and absolutely flawless crystal glassware, Deborah thought it would be cool to venture into the world of lighting. Her inspiration came from the ingenuity of farmers who back in the days transformed basic jelly jars into impromptu shades for their lighting fixtures. Her classy version is meticulously hand blown in Sweden and is a testament of the purity and delicacy of her work. So guess what? To celebrate the start of its production Deborah is having a launch sale on Fab.com through this Thursday (hurry, time is runnin out). The lamp iincludes the ceiling fixture with porcelain base, patinaed brass fittings and the crystal jelly jar shade. I'm beyond-words thrilled to see the final product come to life.
