A RUSTIC AND WHIMSICAL FARMHOUSE

I can't get over how cool this century-old farmhouse is. Located in the Netherlands, the converted farmhouse is decorated in a natural and rugged Scandinavian style with strokes of whimsy that makes it so fun. I love the rustic look of the floors and of course the way the left the original wood beams exposed and painted them to be part of their decor — a very clever solution. It looks so cozy that I wouldn't mind being there right now. Happy weekend!

BLACK MAGIC

Black is often a color not everyone falls for at first sight, especially when it comes to one's home decor. It usually takes some getting used to, but at the end it's a choice that most end up loving. There's something magical about this color that makes everything else around it pop and look super chic. The owners of this Hamburg home have used black exquisitely, especially in their kitchen. You might feel an all black kitchen is way too much, but after seeing these pictures there is a big probability you will be changing your mind — it's dramatic and quite stylish. Don't you think?

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

It's been a while since I've shared one of my projects with you. But to tell you the truth I've been so swamped with deadlines that I hadn't had a chance to download any of my photos. In this particular project I had to stage a two-bedroom model apartment for a new building in Brooklyn. They wanted it to look fresh and contemporary to appeal to the new trendy crowd moving into this hot neighborhood. This kind of project is lots of fun but also rather hectic because of the short amount  of time I have to put it together — from purchasing to installation I only have a few weeks. To keep it simple and sophisticated I decided to go for a soft and neutral palette with just a few splashes of color to add personality. I mixed and matched furnishings from a couple of styles that I knew would complete my original design. But for me, accessories are one of the most important details to bring life to any home. Since time was of essence, I had to buy various home accessories online which helped immensely at the end. The key is to find the right objects that will complement the other pieces of the room. From artwork to throw pillows, each accessory should add to the aesthetic value of your home. So have fun when choosing them but never forget they should always represent who you are.

A MISMATCH OF STYLES

Shabby chic is the style that best describes the lovely home of interior designer and architect Muriel Bardinet. Although it's quite hard to imagine, this serene and poetic Brussels house once was an orphanage and a busy Japanese restaurant in a past life. Muriel did a magnificent job renovating the old commercial space into this charming abode. She had to completely reconfigure the layout to create a comfortable home for her family. But what's truly lovely about her home is the spontaneous mismatch of styles she managed to design.

A BEAUTY FROM THE PAST

I'm sure it's hard finding any potential in an old, rickety garage for military vehicles with holes in the roof. But for Swedish architects Henry and Lotta Imberg it was quite easy. After looking a various houses to turn into their dream holiday home, the couple fell in love with the rustic look, proximity to the sea and the unique landscape of this abandoned building. They were hoping to find an unconventional structure with lots of character they could make their own. And so the did. Wanting to keep the integrity of the old garage, they opted for a open layout — only adding a couple of partitions to separate the living and sleeping areas. The use of raw plywood combined with the beautiful slate blue and soft black, creates a stunning contrast that gives the Imberg home a beautiful yet primitive quality.

ECLECTIC AND MAGICAL

Home is where the heart is, and for British artist and designer Rory Dobner this amazing place is where he loves to live and work. His love for everything vintage played a key role when it came to decorating his home in a rather peculiar and eclectic style. Sumptuous materials like cashmere, mohair and velvets, and gemstone colors like rubies, emeralds and topaz give a rich look to the home. Of course, no artist pad would be complete without the personal touches of his own art. Rory's whimsical artwork adds the final touches to this already magical dwelling.

A PASSIONATE DECOR

His profound passion for architecture, music and fashion has evidently been an influence in Danish fashion designer David Andersen's home. His slick yet rustic pad is filled with amazing show-stopping pieces, like the fab African antelope taxidermy above the fireplace and the stunning tripod floor lamp in the living room. They add a bit of raw and industrial vibe to the minimalist home. Although David's palette of choice for the decor is mostly black and white (a man after my own heat), a subtle sprinkle of hot pink made its way on to the legs of the dining room table—a fun touch of adding an element of surprise. Double sigh!!
