NOTHING FISHY ABOUT THIS HOME

It sure takes a certain dose of imagination to be able to turn an old fisherman's cottage into a magnificent home like this one in a coastal town not far from Copenhagen. Between old and new, the medley of furniture is fantastic. The neutral color scheme—with sprinkles of red, copper and wood—hightens the warmth of the place. And what about that stunning concrete floor? I love how beautifully the dark tones they used accentuates the rich textures of the furniture. Happy weekend!

MINIMALISM THAT WORKS

Minimalism has always gotten a bad reputation especially for family living. Is thought not to be kid-friendly or even practical. But this amazing open-plan home has proven the critics wrong. This family of four manages to live comfortably with kids n a wide-open space where clutter is not part of their modus operandi. With clever room layout solutions and plenty of creativity, they've created a home to envy—a true testament that simplicity reigns!

DRAMATIC AND SEXY

There's always room for dark and handsome interiors in my book. Although some people might feel a dark color palette can make a room look gloomy and smaller, this sexy French home makes a good case for the opposite. The secret is in mixing different shades of gray and black to create dimension and interest in every room. In this particular abode, the use of white, cream and wood accents add the right amount of light to complement the stunning dark hues. Talk about drama!

MOROCCAN REVIVAL

I love mixing decorative styles in my designs, it makes things a bit more interesting and a better design overall. Although it can be at times tricky, two completely opposite styles can merge beautifully in a room. This past weekend I came across this stunning riad in Marrakech and it simply blew my mind. With the help of French designer Romain Michel-Ménière, a British expat transformed an old home into a serene and stylish oasis for her and her mother. By seamlessly blending the traditional Moroccan architectural features from the house with a more modern and minimalist look, they were able to update the house and create a dreamy place to call home in their adoptive new city.

NORDIC CHIC DOWN UNDER

Looking at the beautiful Nordic style of this home you would think this gorg house is somewhere in Denmark or Stockholm. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out it's actually in Melbourne, Australia. With the quintessential Scandinavian color palette of black, white and gray, Whiting Architects created a stunning habitat. The occasional wooden accents around the house are the perfect touches to add warmth and spontaneity. I'm in love!

A MASTERFUL RENOVATION

Before going on and on about how fabulous this Parisian pad is, I want to take a moment to wish you all a magnificent 2014. May this year be filled with joy, wonderful surprises and a whole lot of design fabulosity :) OK, now let's get back to drooling a bit more about this newfound jewel in Le Marais. The renovated petit loft is the genius work of architect and interior designer Fleur Delesalle who masterfully created a dreamy place to live for her client. The apartment is divided in two by a double staircase (which I love) creating an almost mirror image of the space—with the living area in one side and the dining/kitchen on the other. I'm impressed by the feeling of space Fleur was able achieve in just 538 square feet including both levels. Simply amazing!

A RENOVATION GONE CHIC

Not everything in a renovation needs to be expensive and complicated. It's all in the approach and design concept of the project. For this Belgian couple, the 5-month renovation of their old brick house seemed to have gone rather smoothly thanks in part to their thoughtful recycling of materials — and of course some elbow grease to lower the cost. The result speaks for itself. The transformation is remarkable and their home is now a warm and inviting environment full of personal touches and chic design solutions.

A SPLENDID AND REFINED LOFT

There were various challenges with the chaotic layout of this two-story Amsterdam loft. But thanks to a dramatic renovation by Architect Laura Alvarez, the rather claustrophobic space was transformed into a bright, airy, contemporary home that's to die for. The absence of color in the loft's bones is contrasted by the splendid use of color splashes in the furnishings and wonderful art. But if you ask me to choose a key element in the new space I'd have to pick the cantilever staircase that floats between the living and kitchen areas — it's a piece of artwork on its own.
