THE ART OF DISASSEMBLING

Who says dismantling old household objects can't be an artform? For Canadian photographer Todd Mcllellan, this has become the inspiration for his latest project he calls “Disassembly”. He has taken apart vintage artifacts like a wind-up clock, an old camera, a flip clock and even an old-fashioned push lawn mower and arranged every single component into these intricate compositions. They are quite beautiful and I'm sure it took him lot of patience and dedication to create this captivating series.

HARD SOFTNESS

How are you? I'm fine thanks, but actually How Are You? is the name of a design duo from Sweden who designed these great pillow covers. Tobias and Emelie's design philosophy is simple: “we do this for fun and we only do things we like and hopefully you like it too.” They recently introduced me to their newly-launched collection of decorative pillowcases Making Hard Things Soft and thought you might get a kick out of them. They're made of canvas and printed on both sides with digital images of hard materials such as concrete, plywood, brick and rocks. You might have not thought of using these kind of materials in your decor, but these pillowcases are small enough touches that will definitely bring a spark of quirkiness to any sofa or bed. The OSB wood one is my favorite! Which one is yours?

CONCRETE COOL

Inspired by radial geometry and symmetry found in architecture and textiles from cultures around the world, design studio LeeLABS has created Para Clocks—a stunning collection of clocks that combines the raw beauty of concrete with a digitally derived structure. LeeLABS has also joined KickStarter in hopes of raising enough money to build a design app that will allow anyone to customize their own Para Clock. How cool would that be? If you want to learn more about these neat clocks and watch a video about their project you can go here.

TWO IN ONE

Although I'm not an avid cook, I'm all for having my kitchen well equipped with all the necessary gadgets and tools for those rare case when I get into a cooking mood. As you know, New York kitchens are on the smaller side, and mine is no exemption. So whenever I come across dual purpose gadgets, like this cool utensil pod, I get beyond excited. The minimalist and space-saving Knife Pot is Normann Copenhagen's latest addition to their collection of housewares. The Pot is a simple knife block that features an built-in turntable with space for knives, whisks and wooden spoons. Its fabulous design allows for easy dismantling and cleaning and comes in five soft tones of black, white, grey, blue and nude. Isn't great to have all your utensils within reach when preparing your favorite dish? Well my friends, this will definitely do the trick.
