FORTUNE TELLERS

The best thing about having Chinese food, besides enjoying a delish Asian fare, is cracking that fortune cookie at the end of the meal to find words of wisdom or those lucky numbers that will make us lotto winners (if only). These adorable porcelain interpretations, by Aleksandra Pollner in collaboration with Object, have fortunes written by a psychic working from the Seattle area and soon by a celebrity near you. They can be used a beautiful accessories on a coffee table or can broken to find out the message inside. How cute are they?

CHAIRS WITH A CAUSE

Pioneer chef and restauranteur Jamie Oliver has challenged a select group of artists and designers to lend their creativity and customize Arne Jacobsen's classic Ant chair. The one-of-a-kind designer chairs will be auctioned off to raise funds for his The Better Food Foundation which trains unemployed youngsters to become professional chefs. Designer like Paul Smith, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and Christopher Bailey for Burberry are among the famed few invited to participate in The Big Chair Project. Each chair, like the ‘Truly Scrumptious’ by Julien McDonald, above, is quite unique in its own right. These are some of that caught my eye for their funkiness and creativity. You can take a peek at the rest of them here.

INGENIOUS SHADES

Today, I thought I'd give you a short break from beautiful interiors and wow you with these phenomenally witty, sculptural images by Stockholm-based photographer Philip Karlberg. An idea that started a few months back materialized in this crazy fun project for shelter publication Plaza Magazine. Overall, it took him six days and about 1,200 wooden sticks to recreate six ingenious portraits of some classic sunglasses wearers like Johnny Depp, Jackie O, Karl Lagerfeld, Lady Gaga, John Belushi and Steve McQueen (from top to bottom). Aren't they amazing? Bravo to Philip for his patience and imagination.

BLACK MAGIC

I had heard about these products before going to Copenhagen, but it was there that I became obsessed with their whole purifying concept when I had the chance to drink water from a jug that had a stick of White Charcoal. The water tasted so fresh and pure, I became a believer instantly. Sort of Coal is a pioneering Danish company with a particular passion for White Charcola—an extraordinary material with the superb capacity to naturally purify air, water and body. With it as a central element in all of their design, they combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with functional and beautiful Danish design. So if you're thirsty for a healthier lifestyle combined with environmental awareness and natural beauty, this is an easy way of starting anew. Their line also offers air deodorizing and humidity controlling products as well as entirely organic and natural body products. Of course, I brought back a Kishu Binchotan (water purifying stick) and have been using it since then... and I love it. Ok, have I converted you yet?

REVAMPING THE OUTDOORS

Wall coverings have made a surprising come back and are a great and easy way of adding pizzazz to any room. But wait. You don't have to limit yourself to the inside of your home anymore as Italian home decor company Wall&Deco has recently come out with a fabulous collection of exterior wallpaper. The weatherproof wallpapers offer large geometric and whimsy designs that will make your outdoors sparkle . If you're worry about installation, don't. They're applied just like any traditional wallpaper. I wonder what's next.

FLIES NO MORE

I've never been a big fan of camping, mostly because of the allergic reaction I have to mosquito bites. Trust me, it's not pretty. But I'm not sure what's worse, the allergy or covering myself with stinky mosquito repellant. Hence my crush on this sustainable and non-toxic bug repellent Anti-Fly Sphere by Mexican designer José de la O. Taking inspiration from the dangling water-filled plastic bags found in markets in the streets of urban Mexico to keep flies away, Jose took this technique one step further and designed this beautiful and slick glass sphere. A very chic way to enjoy a bug-free day outdoors. Hmmm, maybe there still hope for a camping trip this summer after all.

GOOD DOGGIES

Don't you sometimes stumble upon certain things that just make you grin? Well, let me tell you how I couldn't stop giggling when I came across these hilarious lamps by English artist Whatshisname. They're absolutely hysterical. According to the artist, he created the Good Boy and Good Puppy lamps “as an item of everyday use that makes user uncomfortable with every use.” What's even funnier is that one actually has to step on the dog's fake business to turn them on and off. The lamps were designed to be part of an exhibition on London Underground stations, but sadly they were banned as they felt they were offensive. That's a shame. I guess they didn't have a sense of humor. Happy weekend!
