SUMMER IS IN THE AIR

It's already feeling like Summer here in the Big Apple. With our first heat wave of the season in full force, all I can think of is sitting in a cool breezy spot—like the one in this beautiful photograph—to enjoy a refreshing lemonade. But what I love most about this setting, is that sweet wall sign made out of wire by Dixie Interiors. How cute is that. I hope you're having a nice relaxing Sunday in your favorite spot!

YOU'VE GOT MAIL

This is no ordinary mailbox. It's witty and modernistic representation of a bird makes it a quite charming mail holder. Designed by Bill Playso from the Australian lifestyle brand Playso, the Koo Koo was meant to add a touch whimsy and curb appeal to any front yard. The wing was strategically designed to hold the larger pieces of mail. Triple love!

SOUNDS FROM THE PAST

Everything old is new again —a fabulous trend I've been observing everywhere I go. It's sort of a nostalgic movement that celebrates wonderful design and ingenuity of yesteryear. Take for instance this stylish iPad or iPhone sound amplifier designed by industrial designer Matt Richmond. He took inspiration from a 1920s Victrola horn he found in an antique shop to create this super cool Gramaphone for Restoration Hardware. It definitely stands apart from the typical music docks.

A SWEET PALETTE

For all the chocoholics out there this one is for you! I just couldn't resist the temptation and had to share this super cool project by Swiss photographer Ramses Schweizer. He concocted Chocotone, a make-shift Pantone color guide using a diverse variety of chocolate bars. He used the letters C for chocolate, N for nuts, H for honey and G for grapes, ultimately completing a sweet palette of 25 delicious tones. Do you have a favorite? Yummm!!

FLIPPING IT AROUND

Leave it to the fabulously ingenious Danish design and architect studio Norm to come up with such a cool multifunctional piece of furniture. The Flip Around Table for Menu is incredibly convenient for small spaces as it gives you the best of both worlds: a beautiful stool for extra seating and a table that can serve as a night stand or side table. How handy is that? I simply love everything they do.

SNUGGLY COOLNESS

How can you turn a simple empty bottle into a super chic flower vase? Germany-based design company Snug has found a cool solution for this. With just a few folds they have transformed a basic piece of cardboard and made the Snug Vase—a geometric sleeve to disguise a basic bottle or glass into a sculptural vessel to display your best blooms. Perfect timing since Spring is just around the corner :)

CELEBRATING A CLASSIC

The iconic Stool 60 is celebrating it's 80th birthday. Designed by architect Alvar Alto in 1933, the 20th-century design classic is the number one seller of Artek's products and one of the most recognizable designs around the world. To commemorate the special occasion, the Finnish product company commissioned a handful of architects and designers to create a limited-edition stool. My favorite interpretations are Rings (above) by Japanese designer Nao Tamura and the whimsical depiction by Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme Des Garcons, with black polka dots.

EFFECTIVE SIMPLICITY

I always find that the simpler the object is, the more beautiful its design tends to be. Take for instance this minimalist Clamp Lamp designed by Swedish architect Andreas Martin-Löf. By simply using off-the-shelf lighting parts and attaching them to a handmade metal clamp, Andreas created a wonderfully cool and stylish table lamp. I'm telling you, it's all in the craftsmanship and details. I'd say this is my crush of the week.
