My top 10: Stools

Being one of the earliest forms of seat furniture, the stool is a key piece to have in any home as it provides extra movable seating. Its origin is lost in time, although it is known to be one of the earliest forms of wooden furniture. This basic household item has gone through many transformations and nowadays some are even considered pieces of art. You shouldn't underestimate their design value since these little guys can be a wonderful accent in any room and add that extra touch you're looking for. Also, stools are ideal for pads where square-footage is limited as their size allows you to be creative and use them in unexpected ways. It's amazing the range of stool designs you can find these days so I had a hard time narrowing my choices. But after much deliberation, I've come up with my new faves to share with you.

My top 10: Loveseats

The month of love and friendship has arrived and what better way to start celebrating it than by cuddling up with your sweetheart in one of these darlings. The loveseat, also known as settee or British two-seater, is a very versatile piece of furniture that can be used in most rooms around the house. In cases where square footage is modest, one of these cozy two-seaters is the perfect alternative for a couch — plus it secures an intimacy that a couch cannot. Remember that two's company and three's a crowd.

Showing The Love

Pssst, have you heard about The Homies Awards? It's a way for the great Apartment Therapy to discover, share and honor the best shelter blogs out there. It's not quite a competition, but a way of surveying the blogosphere for the best new home design blogs and sharing them with everyone. And it's also their way of celebrating the richness and awesomeness of shelter bloggers around the globe. Looking at the nominees from last year, I'd be lying if I said that I woudn't be extremely honored and thrilled if The Designer Pad ended up on this year's list. But the only way to get there is to have my lovely readers nominate my blog. Here's what you can do by following these three easy steps:

My top 10: Coin Banks

We're living in times when every penny counts, so why have them scattered all over your pad when you can save them in one of these fun coin banks? They're not your traditional piggy bank. Each one is special in its own cool way. Some you can personalize, while others are just beautiful accessories for your home. There's one for every taste and budget.  To buy one of them, in particular, you might have to save looooots of change, but I just had to include it in my list because it's a nifty concept... I so want it!

My top 10: Champagne Flutes

Can you believe there's only five days left of 2010? The new year it's almost here and we must welcome it with a fabulous glass of bubbly in hand to toast its arrival — definitely my favorite part of New Year's Eve. This is the time of year when the whole world cheers in unison for hopes of prosperity and happiness. And there's nothing like a stylish champagne flute to do it with flair. Here are my picks for some of the most unique and beautiful ones, including mine from the Ittalla Arnes Collection — I simply adore them. Cheers!

My top 10: Bookcases

Are you one of those bookworms with volumes of best sellers and magazines, but with no special place to keep them stashed? These buddies that keep you entertained day after day deserve better than sitting on big piles around your pad. Here are some of the front-runners on my list of favorite bookcases in the market. They're different and fun, and some unexpected. Also, if you've always liked the look of a formal library and cannot afford to have one, you can get the look with this very nifty Bookshelf Wallpaper — a fun twist for any room. Happy reading, in style!

Christmas Chic

Thanksgiving has come and gone, so it's time to start thinking about Christmas and giving your place some Yuletide flavor. But every year stores make it more and more difficult to choose from the hundreds of beautiful holiday decor they offer. That's why I tried to narrow down the options and share with you some of my favorites ones for this season. So come on, get the ball rolling early so your home will be all spruced up in time for the holiday celebrations. Cheers!

Mark your calendar

Right around this time, we're used to going into stores and seeing a zillion very predictable wall calendars. They're usually the same size but different motives: from flora and fauna to shirtless firemen and hot sexy mamas. But because of the use of BlackBerrys and iPhones, less and less people are depending on them. Consequently, calendars have had to evolve, thank God! We're seeing new concepts and nifty ideas emerge to make the new generation more appealing to everyone. They're now more than just day organizers, they're must-have accessories for our home decor. I guess the promotional calendars given out in stores at the end of the year have come a long way. Here are some of my faves.
