Plated cities

These porcelain plates with major cities' downtown maps printed on them are the perfect keepsake for travel aficionados. From New York to Shanghai this collection portray a bold, graphic representation of some of twelve distinctly fascinating cities chosen for their reputations as gateways, and for the way each is dealing with the effects of agglomeration as its population begins to reach critical mass. Neat-O!

Wink, wink!

In a couple of weeks I'll be traveling to Amsterdam and Antwerp to help celebrate a milestone birthday for my best friend. As I always do, I already did my research for new boutique hotels where to stay. I enjoy lodging in these smaller design hotels because they offer me a source of inspiration and a home-away-from-home feeling that most hotels don't. They're never bland or predictable and pay lots of attention to details. Most people rather stay in more familiar brands because they already know what to expect. But believe me, once you go boutique, you'll never go back.

Someone who knows my addiction to good design, told me about 40 WINKS, this unique and charming B&B in trendy East London. This four-story Queen Anne townhouse built in the 1700s is home to acclaimed English interior designer David Carter, where he rents a couple of spare rooms to visitors in the creative and fashion industries who are bored with the impersonal stays of the bigger hotels

Green with envy

A couple of years ago I was fascinated with this color called CITRON (2024-30) by Benjamin Moore and I decided to use it as an accent in my kitchen (right). I LOVED the way it came out. But when my best friend came into the apartment and saw it on the wall he almost flipped out of his mind and told me I was crazy for choosing such a bright and loud color. But I tell you now I don't regret a bit listening to my designer instinct as it makes me smile every time I pass by it. And who knew. This lime-green, acid green or whatever you want to call it has become one of the trendiest hues of the moment. It has invaded almost every store that I visit. Whether in furniture, rugs, wallpaper, acces- sories even clothing this fresh and vibrant color is here to stay for a while.

One crate idea

I'm the kind of person who loves transforming old things and give them a new lease on life. But why didn't I think of this one? Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba has recycled this world-traveled shipping crate and made it into a piece of furniture fit for any home. By just adding nice looking legs and a hinge he has adapted something that would have probably ended up in a dumpster into a treasure.

Pressing art

If you've always wanted to brag about your artistic talent, but there isn't one there, this is your big chance to do it. With these incredible and amusing wall stickers you can add so much to a space without having to deal with paint or the mess thereafter - it's a breeze. Better yet, you can go from tropical to abstract in no time. You can even have your own maintenance-free tweety-bird. I really think it's the perfect alternative to dressing up any stark wall an enhance the mood of any room. What's your choice? I'm between the tree trunks and the cage... Love them!

Making it Fall

My friends, the time has come to put those bathing suits and flip-flops away... Fall is fast approaching. I guess we need to start thinking of warming up the decor in our nest, and what better way than using nature as inspiration. I've always been a big fan of natural materials as they let us bring a little bit of the outside in. You don't need to go overboard and completely redo your interiors, just adding a couple of key pieces, fabrics and accessories will immediately transform the mood of your pad. All you'll need then is a hot cup of cocoa, or tea, to kick back and enjoy this beautiful time of year. Happy Fall!

Step out!

Woke up this morning and when I stepped out to take my Frenchie out for his early walk the cool breeze made me realize that summer days are almost gone. So my friends, go out an enjoy the rest of the warmer days. Fall is almost here. Happy Sunday!
