CHANGING EXPECTATIONS

I've always been an advocate of mixing and matching when designing a room, particularly pieces from different eras and styles that can be repurposed. Coincidently, I just came across a wonderful space that's a perfect example of that. When German designer Addy Kapic was hired to decorate a penthouse, one of his client's requests was to have a dressing room that could turn into a guest room for his visitors. For all the right reasons, this is Addy's favorite room in the whole apartment, as it displays clever storage solutions and unexpected touches that make it that more special.

In order to save space in the narrow room and steer away from ordinary closets, Addy thought out of the box and purchased old lockers of different styles from eBay for 50 Euros a piece. He lined them up against the wall and spray-painted them in black to make them look like a unit. Using a dark gray on the walls was also a smart move, as it brings the whole space together and creates a very calm and elegant ambiance. When you walk in this room, you would never think it's meant to be a closet. The room is chock full of clever touches that gives it character and a delicious dose of humor. I absolutely adore his ingenuity and attention to every single detail.

I love mixing and matching too. And I have that gold mirror in my kitchen! It was gold when I bought it but I painted it white.
