My Top 10: Eco Totes

Image via Deborah MacLeanc

On my first visit to Paris, the City of Lights had me at “hello”. I remember everything being monumentally beautiful, the people dashing and the food to die for. But as the trip progressed, one thing struck a chord: every Parisian would waltz out of the supermarché carrying these fabulous and trendy shopping totes that were not your typical plastic sacs we were used to in the States. After a couple of days, I knew I had to get my hands on at least one. The curiosity was killing me. But my friend, whom I was staying with, filled me in on the scoop. Apparently, this phenomenon of eco-friendly, reusable shopping totes we are now seeing in the U.S. had been the norm in the Old Continent for a while. Go figure.

In honor of this incredibly “green” and fashionable fad, I chose 10 of my favorites totes to share with you  — including #9 which someone very special gave me as a Christmas present (and I love it). From organic cotton, to recycled sail cloth, any of them will make you the most stylish shopper in the market. Ah! I almost forgot to tell you the best part of my Parisian story. My dear, and best-host-in-the-world friend secretly went to the store and bought me five, yes, five of those fab bags for me to bring back home (and I still have and use them almost daily). Have a fantastic weekend!

( 1 ) Made In Peru Tote  ( 2 ) Rebel Green Tote  ( 3 ) Sail Cloth Utility Bag
( 4 )  My Paper Bag  ( 5 ) Sherlock Tote  ( 6 ) Environsax Hemp Bag
( 7 ) Giacine * Birdie Bike Tote  ( 8 ) Lock Canvas Tote
( 9 ) Market Bag  ( 10 ) Tangerine Canvas Tote

I still have mine and use it everyday as well.. and it's like it was bought yesterday! And it has been like what 6 years! talk about good materials. Plus, like you said, it's a little piece of Paris we took with us. Thanks for the mermories.

I'm going to Europe in July (Krakow, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague, wahoo!) and I was planning on using my huge Louis (a Galliera PM which is 16x11x7 in size) as a tote/purse/carry on.

Do the lovely Parisian ladies carry a purse and a tote? Because when you add a camera to the mix, that’s just too much to carry for me. But I do love #2 and #5 and wouldn't mind adding those to the mix.

HI Mary,
I'm sorry, I wish I could help you, but don't have any information on the products in the photo. :(

Hi Agent Scully
I'm so jealous!! It sounds like you're going to have a fabulous time. I'm sure you'll be find with your LV bag, but I would bring an extra tote that you can fold in your bag for little extra goodies you might want to buy...you never know. Have a fantastic trip!!!

These are great! Much better than the plastic re-usable bags you see everywhere. Personal bags are my favorite, too. : )
Me encantó la #9!!! Es la que yo compraría para mi :O)

Nice stuff and nice post. Please explain it more actually what do you want...
Very nice looking totes. I know target sells bags that we reuse everyday. I like the looks of the Giacine birdie bike tote. Looks like the bike my dad made for me in the mid 70s. I have alway been a fond admirer of the sailcloth bags, those colors on the utility bag are wonderful.
