Thank God is Friday (Next)
Before leaving to Amsterdam I had made a list of places I wanted to visit. Being my first time in the charming Dutch capital there were plenty of things I wanted to do and see. In my busy agenda I had a couple of design stores I had to stop by before coming back home. I had read about Friday Next, a new concept store that offers a surprising blend of furniture, fashion and delicious food. And since I'm a huge fan of all three, I HAD to go.
On a delightful Sunday afternoon, I decided to hop on a cab (BTW, very expensive in Amsterdam) and finally find out what this shop was all about. Seeing the storefront I immediately knew I was in for a treat. I was welcomed by a breathtaking space filled with vignettes of perfectly arranged furniture and an amazing mix of accessories and objets d'art to die for. Friday Next is the creation of two friends, Paulien de Vries and Esther Blaffert, who decided to make a change in their lives to pursue their lifelong dream of partaking in the design world. They started as an interior styling agency and today they represent an accessible combination of renowned brands and small exclusive collections of upcoming designers, as well as offering design services.

Image via Maaike BertensIt was really a delightful experience, especially thanks to Natascha who was a great hostess and showed me around the store and gave me all the scoop behind this gem. Of course, I couldn't resist the temptations around me and had to buy a couple of things for my pad. My favorite find was a porcelain plate, part of a collection of 59, that show an imprint of an old map of the city of Amsterdam. It was an award-winning project by the young Dutch designer Maaike Bertens. Mine has the area where the Central Stations is located. I love it.

Of course, to have the full experience at Friday Next I had to sit down and have brunch at their outdoor cafe. To say the least, the food was also delicious and the parade of people passing by wasn't bad either. Thank God for Friday Next, even if it was on a Sunday. When in Amsterdam, please do yourself a favor and check it out.

Qué buena la tienda!! Los platos de porcelana con los mapas también me llamaron la atención (primero veo las fotos, después leo el texto). Lo otro que me gustó es el estante de "cruces". Lo vi en la web de Friday Next y se ve genial. Necesito ir a Amsterdam! :O)
