BRILLIANT WHITES

Deciding what color to paint a room is often a task on its own. Can you remember how many times you've stood in front of a sea of color chips with a blank stare on your face not knowing which one to pick? I've certainly done it way too many times, especially when faced with the hard decision of choosing the 'perfect' white. That's why, as a contributor to My Colortopia blog, I chose to break down the myths about this terrific neutral and its many tonalities in a post for their Color 101 series. I invite you to take a peek and get the nitty-gritty on this popular color that will help you decide which one is the right one for your project. Besides white, the series also expands on other color families and gives you tips to help you make the right color choice. Enjoy!

I have been sponsored by the Glidden® brand paint for PPG to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT

Today, we embark on a make-believe trip over the Atlantito take a tour of this spectacular penthouse in Marseille, France. For interior designer Francois Champsaur the sky was literally the limit when he was comissioned to renovate the top floor apartment of an old storage building. His vision was to create an open-layout plan where light navigates the spacious rooms of this modern home. The designer has the amazing talent of playing with proportions and color incorporating pieces that make a dramatic statement — like that amazing oversized round mirror sitting on one corner of the living room. I mean WOW!

DANISH HOSPITALITY

It's no secret that Danes have an exquisite taste in design, and that their hotels are no exception to this rule. The recently opened Hotel SP34 is one of the newest additions to the impressive line up of design hotels in Copenhagen. The hotel, formerly known as Hotel Fox, was completely revamped by architect/designer Morten Hedegaard into a chic 118-room boutique hotel. Designed with the staple Nordic aesthetic, the hotel is decorated in a soothing grey and white palette with deliciously warm details in wood and leather. No doubt Hotel SP34 should be on the top of anyone's list traveling to the Danish capital any time soon.

Home to interior designer Charlotte Vauvillier, this Parisian flat is tastefully decorated with a delicious mix of mid-century pieces and custom made furniture. A GENDER NEUTRAL LOFT

I can't get enough of the beautifully serene color palette of this 1860 loft in SoHo, New York . Its soft neutral colors flow from room to room creating a harmonious and soothing ambiance. The whole renovation and design story was conceived by British interior design firm Ochre, known for their exquisite attention to proportions, use of luxurious materials and matchless craftsmanship. One might relate these soft hues with feminine interiors, but by mixing in metal, wood and clean-line pieces they made it a gender neutral home. It is absolutely to dye for!

With a black and white base color palette, Sarah introduced strokes of jewel tones to create a sexy design story. MAKING A 'SPLASH' IN YOUR KITCHEN

If you're dying to spruce up your kitchen but don't know where to begin, you can start by creating a fun and cool looking backsplash to give the wall between your cabinets some texture and visual interest. There are many ways of adding a bit of pizzazz to this important part of your kitchen but decorative tiles are one of the most commonly used materials for this project. However, there are several things you need to consider before embarking on a tile-buying spree. Since kitchen backsplashes are subjected to a great deal of use and abuse you want to choose a tile that cleans easily and will not stain — choosing the wrong kind of tile might make it harder to keep the backsplash clean all times. You also need to keep in mind the style of your kitchen so the tiles you select will complement the rest of the room (see ABL Tile & Bathroom for more on this). According to Tilemuralstore.com, some people often choose tile murals for their backsplashes because they're different and quickly transform the overall look of a kitchen. But the list doesn't stop here. There are many other quick and clever ways of updating your kitchen backsplash. So if you need help deciding what's your best option, Houzz is a one-stop online source where you can find tips and wonderful inspiration for your kitchen makeover and any other decorating project. Trust me, it can make things go a lot smother.
